Senators reach deal to avert government shutdown

If dems and pubs agreed on anything, they could pass it. They could agree to raise the debt ceiling by 10 trillion tomorrow and the TP couldn't stop it. But as long as they can't agree, each side needs the TP to kill or pass a House vote

Pay as you go is our price for cooperation

We've just gone over a full fiscal year on continuing resolutions, didn't we?. The last Congress left no budget and we still have none.

Just continuing resolutions since then.

Has that ever happened before?

this one week at a time one month at a time bull crud, is hurting our nation in my opinion....we have a totally dysfunctional government. fund the year...then within the year, make some BIG cuts, that can affect future spending in a sound manner instead of this willy nilly stuff.

Reid has shown that if he is not FORCED to cut he won't. The only power the Republicans in the House have IS the budget. If we agree to a budget with no cuts then Reid will just ignore all bills that follow trying to cut any spending.

Your side won't compromise.
Actually, your side won't compromise! :) (see, i can point fingers too!)

You can, but you won't have much credibility. The House has attempted multiple times to put through decent spending reforms only to have Harry Reid go hold a press conference with his smug attitude and declare everything they send him DOA, then point the finger back at the House as the problem. It is very much the Senate Democrats who are standing in the way of any significant fiscal reform and they are not shy about it one bit.

Its all about what the tea party wants and to hell with the rest of the American people.

They are the ONLY REAL Americans.

That is what they think.

They dont care about 70 percent of the country and HATE the government our founders left us.

The only thing that matters is the tea party its self.

The republicans are finding that out big time.

LOL, tea party tea party tea party tea party tea party............... BOO:lol:

It would be nice to shut this government down permanently and go back to the one that TJ and founders came up with.

It would give us one advantage to harken back to the policies of the floundering fathers.

It would END FREE TRADE dead in its tracks.

The FF's knew with clear insight that FREE TRADE was a foolish national policy.

Yes, they did. A lot of things would stop in their tracks.....for the better.

Yep. OL'Harry has quite a few House Bills gathering dust on his desk. Thats all they will do. Gather dust.

Harry isn't interested in doing anything but obstructing anything the House sends him.. Funny how the LSM focuses on the House and not the Senates doings??

Nope. Harry isn't into any serious fiscal reform.

Apparantly the 14T debt doesnt' concern him either.

the house needs to compromise with the Senate, and they should begin doing such before they try to ram their bills down the senate's throat....they KNOW THIS but are only throwing extremely partisan driven bills over to the senate.....they KNOW the Senate won't bring their garbage up....but they are doing it anyway....

IF YOU call that good for the congress, then so be it.

The House bill said, let's cut this, this and this (even included a Bush program) the Senate bills says, let's not cut anything and do busniss as we have been.

Which side do you feel is not comprimising'?

which bill are you speaking about....for the disaster relief funding or for the budget?

Why was there an argument over disaster aid?

That should be a given.

Stupid tea party.

Actually the Democrats vetoed the disaster relief because they wouldn't allow any cuts in the bll on other things. Might want to get you facts straight.

Passed The House: 219-203
This bill would fund the government through the first seven weeks of the 2012 fiscal year, which starts on October 1. The bill offsets an increase in federal disaster aid by reducing funding for two Energy Department loan programs. The Senate subsequently rejected the bill and scheduled a vote on an alternate version this week.
