Senate GOP Blocks Bid To Enforce Sanctions On Putin Ally

Eleven Republicans broke ranks with party leadership and the Trump administration by voting with Democrats to advance the measure, but it failed to garner the necessary 60 votes needed to break a filibuster. It garnered 57 votes; all 42 senators voting against it were Republicans.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced last month its plan to lift sanctions imposed on the core businesses of aluminum magnate Deripaska, including EN+, Rusal and energy firm JSC EuroSibEnergo. In seeking to lift the sanctions, top Trump administration officials argued that Deripaska had sufficiently divested control of the firms and that keeping the penalties in place for Deripaska-linked aluminum producing companies would benefit other aluminum companies based in China and elsewhere.

But even some Republicans who usually support President Donald Trump and his agenda didn’t buy the argument that Deripaska still wouldn’t in some way control the companies from which he divested his interests.

Hey stupid... He can't do what the Senate won't allow. But don't let that stop you from your fantasies.

jo, put aside your adoration for a minute or two and at least try to see why Democrats favor an investigation into an admin that both hides its communications with the Big Bear himself and bullies his puppets into softening sanctions placed because of Russia's subversive actions against us and others. OF course we all know you will never believe that obstruction IS collusion in spite of the already plethora of evidence including Trump's own words to Lavrov AND Lester Holt about the Comey firing. And McConnell is his putty, hiding out when he is not refusing to let legislation come to the floor if it might pass against his master (and his wife's master too). You know McConnell's agenda is rigged. This new legislation softening sanctions is just another kiss blown at Vlad and another notch in Vlad's belt with compliant Republican blessings.

Every Congress is scripted an rigged...I don't give a s*** what Trump does behind the scenes but I do care what he does for America. Anyone who thinks that international dirty deeds are new to this administration is beyond dumb, beyond gullible and beyond saving. I have no ears for the suddenly newfound righteousness of the left. They put it on and take it off as it suits them.

In the meantime while Lefty fantasizes about attacking Putin I would recommend you take the time to build a 10-foot thick concrete bunker.

Should the Republicans be impeached or removed from Congress on this, because they are supposedly controlled by Uncle Pooty?

IMHO, its time to put aside this Russophobia. The Russian Federation isn't perfect, no country is. But normalization of relations with the Russian people is what America needs to be aiming for. I've seen how the demonization of Uncle Pooty has so overwhelmed the left, that we can't get anything else done. Secretary Pompeo should really just go to Moscow with a big plastic button prop to Reset relations with the Russian Federation.

The only logical explanation is that almost the whole GOP is putins bitch.
Gawd help us from becoming the next USSR.

At this point the average Russian citizen probably has more freedom. If you're willing to do the mental contortionism that it takes to believe that 47 Republican senators are bought and sold by Putin then you are truly an idiot. But then again the words idiot and Lefty are basically synonyms.

"Suddenly newfound righteousness" related to international dirty deeds? Really? That's beyond comment. What's your thoughts about newfound righteousness related to our friends at NATO?
That you do not care what Trump does behind the scenes is a given. But what has he done for America..besides use it to enhance his family businesses, exhaust its treasury, spread fear among the simple, divide, scapegoat and destroy the trust of other nations. Is coal consumption returning, jobs not leaving, paychecks for those who need it most growing?

Do we need bunkers to protect ourselves from Putin, or just a president and congress with balls?

Does it take mental contortionism to assume 47 Republicans rather have a chance for reelection? Not for nothing, it is obvious for anybody with any sense of the dynamics within the GOP, that standing up to Trump is a serious political risk for most of them. They aren't being bought, they are opportunists.
