:clap2:WASHINGTON - A prominent Senate Democrat asked Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to put off her state's controversial immigration law to give Congress a chance to act. Scant time passed before Brewer answered: No.

The request by Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York was a long shot for getting a stalled Senate immigration initiative moving again. Even the White House thinks the Senate proposal is nearly dead. "There's not enough support to move forward," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday.

This just goes to show how out of touch our Senators are with their constituents.

From the CBS newsource:

Eighty-three percent of Americans say the issue of illegal immigration in the United States is serious, including six in 10 who describe it as very serious. Public opinion on this question is similar to what it was in during the 2008 presidential campaign as well in 2006, when immigration legislation was last seriously debated in Congress.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why they can't get the immigration initiative moving...

Because whatever they come up with will not satisfy either those for it or those against it. Those who want immigration reform want AMNESTY and nothing else will do - those who are against it, do NOT want the illegals rewarded for entering the country outside the law and have vowed NOT to give them amnesty. So one might say it's a standoff.
