Self-sustaining Communes

Do they still exist? It seems like modern wind and solar energy technology would make such systems more viable than ever and becoming viable on larger scales as technology improves. Does anyone know whether any such experiments are still being attempted?

I'd consider turning my place into a commune if I could find four or five people who understood what communalism really means.

People aren't quite ready for that, yet, I think.

We're still too enamoured with the "virtue" of selfishness to make a commune work.

If I had to live in a commune I'd shoot myself - or everyone else. Too many people around all the time. No thanks.
