Seems Like Everyday Obama Is Backing Off a Campaign Pledge

Most people won't care. He's already slapped every anti-war voter in the face with every single cabinet pick, and not a peep from the American "left".

It might even take some of you right-wingers to make him accountable!

I voted for him on green jobs, not the war. If he and the dems don't come through in spades on green jobs, I won't vote for them next time around.

I did think he was better for the economy, but I don't know how to judge him on that, will feel it out as i go.

I think he is just building anticipation in everyone for when he actually takes office! lol

Don't worry. Voters don't hold politicians accountable anyway. There's always of course the select few, but never even close to being enough to make any kind of difference. That's why the pols know they can get away with it. It's not limited to any specific party or ideology. Not many conservatives held Bush accountable for everything he failed to come through on, which was MOST of his 2000 platform.

Oh believe me I'm not worried,, I saw what the obamalama crowd gave him a pass on during the election, there is no question whatsoever they will explain away and excuse every misdeed he does! No problemo!

I may be mistaken, but seems only non-Obama voters are responding. I guess that has to do with the candidate or rather his voters? They don't mind if he changes his stance, he won? Links at site:

'Muted by Reality' - WSJ.com

This most important point during the campaign:

Barack Obama was elected president a month ago and does not take office for another 6½ weeks. But his most fervent supporters already have reason to be disappointed in him. Witness the headline of a "news analysis" in today's New York Times: "Campaign Promises on Ending the War in Iraq Now Muted by Reality."

"As he moves closer to the White House," the Times reveals, "President-elect Obama is making clearer than ever that tens of thousands of American troops will be left behind in Iraq, even if he can make good on his campaign promise to pull all combat forces out within 16 months." That itself is a big "if," as the Times acknowledges:

That status-of-forces agreement remains subject to change, by mutual agreement, and Army planners acknowledge privately that they are examining projections that could see the number of Americans hovering between 30,000 and 50,000--and some say as high as 70,000--for a substantial time even beyond 2011.

We may be in Iraq for a hundred years! The Times notes that "there always was a tension, if not a bit of a contradiction, in the two parts of Mr. Obama's campaign platform to 'end the war' by withdrawing all combat troops by May 2010":

To be sure, Mr. Obama was careful to say that the drawdowns he was promising included only combat troops. But supporters who keyed on the language of ending the war might be forgiven if they thought that would mean bringing home all of the troops.

Hmm, here is what the Times editorial page said about the subject when it endorsed Obama back in October:

The unnecessary and staggeringly costly war in Iraq must be ended as quickly and responsibly as possible.

While Iraq's leaders insist on a swift drawdown of American troops and a deadline for the end of the occupation, Mr. McCain is still talking about some ill-defined "victory." As a result, he has offered no real plan for extracting American troops and limiting any further damage to Iraq and its neighbors.
Mr. Obama was an early and thoughtful opponent of the war in Iraq, and he has presented a military and diplomatic plan for withdrawing American forces. Mr. Obama also has correctly warned that until the Pentagon starts pulling troops out of Iraq, there will not be enough troops to defeat the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

It is awfully generous of the Times to forgive Obama's supporters for believing what they read in the Times.

It must be said that not everyone is surprised to find Obama's campaign promises "muted by reality." Those of us who were paying attention to reality before Nov. 4 never took Obama's pledge to flee Iraq seriously. Although it is especially repugnant to seek political gain by promising to lose a war, it is also common for presidential candidates to make unrealistic promises, especially on foreign policy, and disregard them once elected. (Remember how George W. Bush was going to stop "nation building" and Bill Clinton was going to get tough on the Red Chinese?)

Obama thus is carrying on a long tradition of making empty and irresponsible promises. While he may deliver victory in Iraq, his war against cynicism has already been lost.

John Ziegler proved that Obama voters were completely clueless about anything in the election except "hope", "change" and Sarah Palin's children and wardrobe. They wouldn't know if he flip flopped on a policy if he smacked them in the face with it...

:clap2: and even if they knew, they would nt care!

It will be President Barack Hussein Obama after 20Jan09. A 58 Dem Senate. A 255 Dem House. Going to be interesting to see how you all react to some real changes.

The excuse for the first term will be BUSH.

The excuse for the second term will be HILLARY & BILL.

He will then retire and take over ACORN.

God (please) Bless America!

By the way Willow, I love the cat and dog pic, that is GREAT!

Hot Dog!

There is that magic word again 'CHANGE'

The word which is going to save the USA and bring hope to the World.

But, let's examine some facts. Obama made it clear that he would institute change right from the start, in his team, his first string and reserves, even the water boy was going to represent change. No more of this Washington good ole boy club.

Has he? NO

His team, more than 80% of them are longtime Washington pucks.

And ....... AND........ the one thing which was different (CHANGE?) ..............
is his security team, they are Hawks.

So yes Old Rocks, I agree, this magical change deal will be interesting.

This man has the opportunity to do some very good things. If he truly does throw out the old of Washington, stands in the center and leads, even if he fails, he would have done the best for all and I hope that is what he does. That was his claim to fame, I hope he delivers on that. That would be a very welcome change in my opinion.

Perhaps the reason for no responses by Obama supporters is because there really is no point to responding to threads like these.

You all bitched about the things he was promising and now you're bitching because you seem to think he's breaking those promises.

Seems kind of silly to me. Ya'll don't have to suffer under his "socialist" administration and if he doesn't change anything then you get to keep the shitty government you seem to so enjoy. Ya'll should be dancing in the streets.

adn the really funny part is that you're bitching that his supporters aren't bitching about him breaking promises.

We aren't bitching because he hasn't even taken office yet. Some of us will wait until he's actually on the job and in control, with the heavily dem Congress and then we'll see what happens.

I personally suspect he's being low key for now cuz Bush is still in power. The less he ruffles feathers the better. You don't come out screaming about all the shit you'll do when the other guy still has the keys to the castle.

OK, I'm coming out of the closet now, and making an admission:

I voted for Obama.

Shhh... don't tell everyone.

No, I don't agree with him on every issue, but then, I don't agree with McCain on every issue, either. It was not an easy decision.

And no, I don't think he's the savior, the Messiah, or that he is going to suddenly make everything right. No one can do that.

At first, I thought I'd vote McCain, with the idea that we'd have both parties in power if he won.

Then, since the Libertarians more closely mirror my own philosophy, I was going to vote for Bob Barr, even if he had less chance of winning that Frosty the Snowman would have in Needles in July.

If you haven't been to Needles, 115 degrees in the shade is considered "brisk" there.

So, why Obama?

Because the only thing the anti Obamistas could come up with seemed to be nonsense: He is the AntiChrist, he's a Marxist, he is a Muslim terrorist, he wasn't born in the US, and, a real gem you may not have heard, he's the son of Malcom X.

If his enemies can't come up with anything real, he must be a pretty good choice.

So, now he's backed off on the "windfall profits tax" because of the drop in oil prices. Good for him. That never was a good idea anyway.

And, it never was his position that we should suddenly pull out of Iraq. That was what the Anti Obamistas were saying his position was, along with the above gems of wisdom.

If he flips and flops, and does the right thing in the end, that's OK with me.

No one is perfect, and Obama has taken on a nearly impossible task. I hope he has some successes, at least.
