See the Washington Monument While You Still Can

TBH, part of me is glad that this relic from the 9/11days is going away....We already get a nice scoop of compulsory patriotism before the game starts...Enough already.

Right result for the wrong reason.

It was already way over the line when they started punishing people for not-singing.

In 2008, a fan at Yankee Stadium was restrained and then ejected by police officers for attempting to leave his seat for the restroom while the song was playing. The following year, three minor league fans of the now-defunct Newark Bears were ejected from the stadium for refusing to stand during the song.

If it’s freely chosen, standing for the national anthem is patriotic. Forcing people to stand for God Bless America isn’t. This is about more than taxpayer money. The government has no business propagandizing the American people. --- John Kiriakou, former CIA counterterrorism officer and former senior investigator with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee --- from this thread

The Yankees have suspended the use of Kate Smith’s recording of “God Bless America” during the seventh-inning stretch while they investigate an allegation of racism against the singer for a song she recorded in 1939.

Yanks bench Kate Smith while investigating racism

Why are they using music from goddam 1939? Can we not move the fuck ON from ignorant times?
Agreed....The morons pushing this shit definitely haven't moved on from 1939.

If it wasn’t for Fake News you’d have no news at all.

Why stand for that song, it's not the National Anthem.

Holding people from the past accountable using the norms of society today is stupid. It was a different time. EVERYONE could be considered Racist, Sexist, Homophobic, etc. Everyone.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game was first sung at ball games in 1934. I don't know if the authors were racist or slave owners but they should be thoroughly investigated and their descendants punished.

This is all starting to remind me of the Cultural Revolution in Maoist China where every utterance, public depiction or symbolic representation needed to be scrutinized down to the nth degree to make sure it fell in line with the revolutionary agenda.

I'm somewhat surprised that "Democracy in America" hasn't been pilloried and rewritten, for all the instances that de Tocqueville used the term "savages" do describe the Indians.

Yep, Kate is toast now. No matter what they find of the old 1939 song that it was just part of a satire, it might have even been meant in its day as an ATTACK AGAINST racial discrimination, people have no context today, no humor, no perspective; some leftard targeted her (they sit them down in a basement somewhere to research someone's whole life throughout for anything they can weaponize against them), and the very fact that someone even USED the word "racism" in the context of Smith now means that her GBA song is dead meat now. It will be stricken from every database, every store in the country, wiped from the collective history and memory of this country, any mention of her name, life and career now verboten in the corporate world with likely references to her being possibly connected to the KKK or being a "white supremacist."
