Sebelius: Decrease in Human Beings Will Cover Cost of Contraception Mandate | CNSNews.com

"Because the Catholic church teaches that sterilization, contraception or abortion are wrong and that Catholics must not be inolved in them, the regulation forces Catholics--and members of other religious denominations that share those views--to act against the teachings of their faith. Numerous lawsuits have already been asserting that the rule violates the First Amendment’s guarantee to the free exercise of religion. Many of the nation's Catholic bishops have published letters saying: "We cannot--we will not--comply with this unjust law."

"Despite the controversy over whether the mandate is constitutional, Sebelius told Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) during the hearing that the administration never sought a legal opinion about the regulation from the Department of Justice."

Supreme Court Refuses Emergency Request to Block Obama Contraception Mandate
December 27, 2012 WASHINGTON (AP) - Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Wednesday denied a request to block part of the federal health care law that requires employee health-care plans to provide insurance coverage for the morning-after pill and similar emergency contraception pills.
Hobby Lobby Stores and a sister company, Mardel Inc., sued the government, claiming the mandate violates the religious beliefs of its owners. In an opinion, Sotomayor said the stores fail to satisfy the demanding legal standard for blocking the requirement on an emergency basis. She said the companies may continue their challenge to the regulations in the lower courts.

Company officials say they must decide whether to violate their faith or face a daily $1.3 million fine beginning Jan. 1 if they ignore the law. Attorneys for the government have said the drugs do not cause abortions and that the U.S. has a compelling interest in mandating insurance coverage for them.

In ruling against the companies last month, U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton said churches and other religious organizations have been granted constitutional protection from the birth-control provisions but that "Hobby Lobby and Mardel are not religious organizations."

Congress Expands Abortion Coverage for Women in U.S. Military
December 27, 2012 - Congress, in the pre-Christmas rush, passed a Democrat-sponsored provision that will allow women in the U.S. military to use their health insurance to pay for abortion in cases of rape or incest. Right now, the Defense Department pays for abortion only when the mother's life is at stake.
The expanded abortion coverage is included in the defense authorization bill that is now on its way to President Obama for his anticipated signature. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), who introduced the abortion measure, said on Nov. 30 -- in a speech on the Senate floor -- that it was "unfair" to deny military women "reproductive health care." Shaheen's amendment repeals a policy that's been in place since 1981. "After three decades of a policy that discriminated against women who put their lives on the line for us, I am so proud that we will finally begin to provide the coverage our servicewomen deserve,” Shaheen said on Dec. 21. “We have heard from so many who have said the same thing: this is an issue of equity. Women in the military should have the same health coverage as the civilians they protect." Shaheen said under current policy, women who have been sexually assaulted, especially those posted overseas, "have been forced to seek unsafe and unacceptable alternatives to a safe abortion due to the funding ban in current law."

Some 214,000 women are now listed as active duty. The Senate passed the Shaheen amendment in early December, and it survived in the final legislation that emerged from a bipartisan Senate-House conference committee. Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.) chairs the House Armed Services Committee.

Unlike most other federal health programs, Department of Defense rules did not have a funding exemption for abortion coverage in the case of rape or incest. The Shaheen amendment will give women in uniform the same health care services as most women who receive health care through the federal government.

The National Defense Authorization Act passed the House on a vote of 315-107 and the Senate on a vote of 81-14.

Fuck hobby lobby.

Michaels is better.

The problem is that health care is purchased through employers. We do not purchase any other type of insurance through employers so why do we do it when it comes to healthcare? If we just replaced the money from employees paychecks that we take out to cover the health insurance and allowed them to purchase their own these types of problems would go away. This way if a women works for a Catholic institution and still wants what 99 percent of Catholic women purchase anyways, they are able to.
