KOMO News Special: Seattle is Dying

Unrestricted migration lousy leadership
Everything libs touch

I watched half of this well produced video. So depressing. And no reason to think they are embellishing the crisis. It also seems pretty certain it is a drug problem more than a homeless problem. They are all addicted or mentally ill or both. I would rather spend tax payer money on trying to put these people in care facilities of some kind than I would wanting to spend money bringing in more countless illegal aliens, or spending money on global warming, or so many other measures. Nor would I give welfare out to able bodied of sound mind people without having them work for it. No American city should have to tolerate such filth and danger and misery, at least make it a top priority to try to overcome.
Well, I don't know about embellishing the crisis but there is a lot they didn't tell you because it would not fit the narrative of the video. The people they showed in the video are not representative of the homeless. They are representative of the worst of the worst.

There are about 12000 people homeless in the Seattle area. This includes nearly 3,000 families with women and children which you did not see. Almost half of the homeless have jobs. Most of the homeless do not live on streets at least not permanently. Of the 12,000 homeless only about 900 live in the tent cities they showed in the video.

By definition a homeless person is an individual without permanent housing who may live on the streets. It is very common for a homeless person to live in as many as a dozen places in a month, sleeping in cars, old RV's, in garages, halfway houses, homes of relatives or friends, etc...

One misconception that most people have about the homeless is they they have no money. As I said, almost half have jobs. Also, a large percent receive money from various sources such as government disability, VA benefits, pensions, and financial help from family or friends. So they have money for much of the necessities of life but not housing. Of course many spend that money on drugs and/or alcohol.

I had two problems with the video. First, it leads the audience to believe that jailing the homeless or dumping them in the mental health system will solve the problem. That's is complete nonsense. Most of them have no real fear of jail and there is no room in mental hospitals for them. Lastly, most of the homeless in Seattle have most of the necessities of life except for a home and that is what the city is trying to provide.

Who cares if the ones wallowing in the filth in public, is just a fraction of the entire homeless problem. The bottom line is there are scores of them turning our landscape into a landfill, and their irresponsibility and filth threatens the health of thousands.

There has to be ways to deal with this that includes getting the streets cleared of these people.
If there is, no one has found it. The people you saw in the video are chronic homeless, that is they have been on the streets for at least a year, have confirmed physical or mental disabilities, alcoholism, or drug addiction. Although they are the most visual and tend to cause the most problems they are not representative of the majority of homeless people.

Putting them in jail does not fix the problem. For many, jail is preferable to living on the streets and it certainly does not rehabilitate them. This is the main reason why the justice system does no incarcerate them. Mental Health Clinics are outpatient services which are pretty useless. Inpatient publicly supported mental health institutions do not provide long term care except for the very worst cases because they are always overcrowded.

So that's your apologetic for the Seattle situation?

The United States has an opioid crisis, which the past three administrations have utterly ignored, and this President continues to blame illegal immigration for. All of Trump's time, money and attention for the past year has been focused on building a useless wall, while Trump continues to ignore the fact that 70,000 people are dying of opioid abuse every year, and that death toll contionues to mount.

Violent crime in the mid-west is now at higher levels than violent crime in the inner cities, and that poor, broke, unemployed white people are just as drug addicted and violent as inner city blacks when they lose all of their money and opportunity, too.

At the root of all of this is the failure of successive Republican administrations to deal with the effects of wage stagnation, and off-shoring that began when Reagan gutted the anti-trust regulations put in place during the Guilded Age, and destroyed the unions that lifting working Americans out of poverty for 30 years following WWII.

Republicans have convinced working Americans that despite the lowest wage to GDP/ratio since the Guilded Age, and the highest corporate profits in the history of the world, and the largest, best equipped military force the world has ever seen, American corporations cannot provide the simple assurances of life that all of the other first world nations give to the people who are producing their goods and services:

mandated vactions
maternity leave
universal health care
quality public school education

Americans are frightened, anxious, depressed, and suicide rates are going up. As life becomes more uncertain for middle class Americans in terms of health care, work/life balance, and just having a government that is benefitting ALL of its citizens instead of pandering to the lowest elements among you.

All of the "socialist" crap you rail against, is just the bullshit and lies the Republican Party keeps feeding the gullible to keep Americans poor and dependent on "earned income credits" to eat, instead of living wages to all full-time workers, and to continue to funnel the profits their labour creates, to an every smaller group of people at the top.

Other nations in the world have resisted this transfer of wealth, and are growing their middle class, educating their people, and not getting involved in military build-ups, and useless foreign wars. Our life expectancy is going up, not down. Our qualifty of life is going up, not down, and our countries are pulling away from the USA, because we see where you're headed.

United we stand, and divided you fall. As long as you play the blame game - blaming immigrants, instead of the government policies which encourage illegals to come here, blaming race for inner city crime, not poverty, and not working together to find solutions, the situation will only get worse.

So now,, what are YOU going to do about these issues?
Since when are republicans responsible for a persons behavior?
You sound like a dry drunk. You may not drink but you have all the thinking errors of an alcoholic.

Republicans are responsible for the economic conditions that destroyed manufacturing in the mid=West, and their failure to provide retraining, or even a living minimum wage for low wage jobs. Republicans have fought universal health care tooth and claw, and at every opportunity seek to undercut, undermine and underfund necessary social programs.

Republicans destroy all social spending programs they touch. They are so frightened that one unentitled person get one dollar of money they're not entitled to, that they're prepared to spend millions to ensure it doesn't happen. Like spending $1.1 million on drug testing of welfare recipients to achieve $100,000 in savings of benefits paid. The entire program could save $1 million just by eliminating the testing. If you spend $11 and only get $1 in savings in return, it hardly makes sense to continue spending the $11. But Republicans are adamant that drug testing is the answer to cost savings.

Public school education has been destroyed by red state Republicans for generations. All so they could make parents pay more for their children's education through Charter schools. This program is failing badly, and American education rankings continue to sink. The Republican solution - blame "leftist" teachers for "indoctrinating" their children. Republicans buy the test books, set the cirriculum, and tell the teachers what they can and cannot teach. It's like blaming the auto workers who assemble them, because the engines in the cars are badly designed and failing. The Republican goal is to end public school education, by giving more money for private/charter school programs, and starving the public system of funding.

It's not just jobs. It's education, providing a proper homelike for kids, providing help at critical times in peoples lives. It takes all these things and more which is why social problems are the most difficult problems we face. However, they are also the most important because in one way or another they effect us all.

That is not what it's about. As it says in the article and in the TV programs, why aren't we doing more to prevent crime, solve the homeless problem, and deal with drug abuse. These are major issues with liberals. These are homegrown problems and are not the result of migration.

I've lived in Seattle for years and what I have seen is a gross misallocation of resources, 3.3 billion dollars for a tunnel in the downtown section and one sports stadium after another and years of procrastination on the decision to expand light rail which will cost the city hundreds millions of dollars. There is nothing wrong with these projects but the city needs to make crime, drugs, and homelessness a priority.
Drug abuse is directly linked to open borders and drugs from Mexico! Illegal immigration. Illegal drugs. San Francisco is shit! La is shit now Seattle is shit! All under democrats failure to uphold the law!

We are going to let you big moutheddumbassed know it all Canadians handle it!

The thing that is rotten is ILLEGAL immigration.
You liberals really like to obfuscate on that issue. Is it because you realize that your position is rhetorically indefensible and so you try to move the goal posts?
That is what it looks like from here.
All used toilet paper looks the same from "here. "

What is that supposed to mean? Are you comparing immigrants in general to used toilet paper?

That is what it looks like.

Seems to me you guys are all in a tizzy about illegal immigration due to Hannity and Ann C and POTUS can't figure a single thing out for himself. Now do something about it.

This is amazing. Hundreds of thousands of people every year are breaking into our country bringing crime, disease and human trafficking and drugs along with them, and all you can grasp; is that I must be following Hannity and Coulter?

roflmao, that is simply projection, dude. I dont like illegal immigration for the reasons given above and I dont like it when people invade my country as these people are.
What is funny is that DJT has you fools wrapped around his little gold finger. Nothing is going to be done about illegal immigration into the US until the money is taken out of it. Just ask POTUS. He has plenty of illegals working at Mar a Lago.

Okay..

Wait....so if that’s the case why aren’t liberals clamoring for something to be done to take the money out of illegal immigration? It’s seems to me you guys spend all your time and energy telling conservatives how their ideas are in humane and won’t work, without offering up any counter proposals. Some people might believe illegal immigration isn’t of concern to you guys at all.

I know they are addicted and mentally ill, but you can't just leave them on the streets and then make them confy being there. If they commit crimes, they should go to jail. Why in the world are judges just letting people walk, even repeat offenders? They even let people with violent priors walk. That is nuts. You can't just say they need help and let crimes go. Jail may not reform criminals, but until you find a way to reform them, you need to put them in jail. I'm betting a huge percentage of criminals all over the country are mentally ill, but you can't just let them commit crimes at will. As the video pointed out, it is not compassionate to enable these people in a perpetual state of misery.

LOL. Pictures don't lie dude.

Making people more dependent on social programs will make crime and poverty worse. This has become apparent already. To do more of it would be foolish. I won't say the Republicans have never made bad economic decisions, but there is plenty of blame to go around. Also, the Democrats made a massive blunder when they told people marriage was unnecesary for families. Telling cops not to do their job, and rewarding people to not do anything is a proven disaster.

LOL. Pictures don't lie dude.

Really? Do you think my great granddaughter is sitting on the Iron Throne?

Ever heard of Photoshop?

Lbj’s great society destroyed the black family
Abortion isn’t a social program, it’s murder
As far as the rest of your opinion...well...it’s just that, your opinion

Who checks the Media Bias Checker?

The site is a joke. Probably one of those Soros financed sites with "trustworthy" names and bullshit content.

For instance, they rate HuffPost as Left biased, with factual reporting: HIGH (now that's funny)
And Buzzfeed is rated as Center-Left biased, with factual reporting: MIXED

KOMO News Special: Seattle is Dying

Unrestricted migration lousy leadership
Everything libs touch

Tough reality is not part of a Liberal agenda, how we sink deeper into denial...

They’re destined too fail with this mentality, and they want to tell you President Trump has no idea what he’s doing with the wall at our Southern Border? This is a case in point that clear demonstrates why you should enforce the laws...
Who is arguing against enforcing the laws? You guys just make this shit up. Or just buy the latest Hannity episode. Vote reps in that will change immigration laws and amend The Constitution.

Typical, watch the video, then tell me they’re enforcing the laws! Until then, stay off the thread...
Typical. Since you can't articulate a thesis, then I am not watching your video. Just that simple.

Thank you OL.
There is no reason to watch it. KOMO is owned by Sinclair Broadcasting whose been in bed with Trump since he started campaigning. It's a hatchet job. Sinclair's goal has been to counteract the bias by major networks by broadcasting biased programs at the local level. This is a good example.

Although the video continuously blames the city administration, mayor, and city counsel, and the courts, nowhere in the video did they interview the chief of police, the mayor, city councilmen, or anyone from justice. Nowhere in the video did they address what is being done to prevent homelessness.

The only solution the video offered was to jail the homeless, which include nearly 3000 families with women and children. Most of Seattle homeless have never been charged with a crime yet the video see the jail as the solution.

And who else is to blame for it? In your first post (#7) you said "why aren't we doing more to prevent crime, solve the homeless problem, and deal with drug abuse. These are major issues with liberals. These are homegrown problems and are not the result of migration."

Those are NOT issues with liberals, those issues are created by liberals.

What you saw is a one sided picture. Most of these people are not violent. They are a nuisance. The police have their hands full dealing with real emergency situation. As one policemen said on the local news, if we ran every homeless person in for vagrancy, that is all we would do. And then where would we put them. As long as they are not bothering other people, the police leave them alone. However, when the weather is really bad, some of the homeless will taunt the police trying to get arrested. The chronic homeless do not fear jail.
