Sears Lists 79 Stores To Be Closed...


What a sad commnetary to a once great enerprise but I visted Sears a couple of times during the holidays and did not find what was once their exclusive finds. They have become just another f'n Walmart, Target or name your generic wholesaler.

My central air and steam cleaner from Sears have treated me right for awhile now. Retail is brutal when their are 10 to 20 stores selling the same things in a ten mile radius. It is as simple as price competition these days. If the consumer knows detergent is .75 cents cheaper at wal-mart for the same bottle they will go there. We are all playing the price is right these days. You can't beat an 18 pound bag of cat food for ten bucks at Kmart though. Gotta keep the advertising and sales going. Name recognition and reputation go along way in keeping customers coming back to the stores. As simple as it seems, taking peoples pop cans can mean the difference of shopping at Kroger, Meijers, or Kmart for lots of merchandice. Self service lanes make it easier for ebt customers to shop without being embarressed. Sears needs to dump $1000.00 reclining chairs. Which is more profitable? Twenty $200 chairs with a fifty dollar profit per chair, or one chair with a $500 profit? Need to turn more lower priced units with modest margins to create larger cash flow. By the way, Obama didn't create this recession. 911 did. He put Osama out of business and you have the nerve to say he isn't a great American President. What short memories you people have. I won't get into the fact that our own government used to pay Osama to fight the Russians. The deficit was the Iraq war. Now when the ship needs repairs to stay afloat you blame the captain who fought off the pirates and kept us from sinking? please.

Sears Holdings Corp on Thursday identified 79 of the 100 to 120 Sears and Kmart stores it said earlier this week it would close, with the list split almost evenly between the two chains.

The struggling retailer on Tuesday reported weak holiday sales and forecast earnings for the current quarter would fall by more than half compared to the year earlier results. It also said it tapped its credit line.

Fitch Ratings on Thursday afternoon downgraded Sears to 'CCC' from 'B', citing a "continued deterioration" in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization, which it said could turn negative next year.


The list does not include any stores in Illinois, where (D) Governor Pat Quinn two weeks ago signed into law tax breaks aimed at keeping Sears and other Illinois-based companies from leaving the state.

Walk into any K-mart in America. Then walk into any Walmart, Target, Meijer, or any other regional discount store out there. Where would you prefer to shop? There really isn't much difference between any of them, except for one thing. The K-mart stores are old and dingy and they attract the type of customer many people would prefer not to associate with. How Sears and K-mart fucked things up so bad by never updating their stores is a travesty. K-mart could easily have been Walmart.

Sears has not kept up with the times and is going the way of Montgomery Wards. Perhaps you can blame that one on Obama too.

Projection is not a good thing. You DUmmies blamed the Montgomery Ward closing on Bush.

That said, I stand by my previous post. Obama isn't to blame specifically for this event. However, this event reflects the current economic climate which is not good and isn't (nor hasn't) gotten any better under Obama.

Enough with the "saved us from a depression" nonsense. Bush fucked things up and Obama has fucked things up even more. Obama relied on his crack team of "experts" and promised results. He didn't say that things were on the verge of collapse and he'd do the best he could to mitigate it, he said things were really bad and by enacting his plan things would get better. Well they haven't. We're still at over 8% unemployment even though his prediction was that we'd be at or under that. We're still struggling with economic growth eventhough the stimulus was supposed to "jump start the economy." We're still waiting for the "recovery summer." And of course somehow raising taxes is supposed to fix all this.

I don't hate the guy, I just didn't think any of his "Hope" and "Change" was actually going to work. As much as it sucks, I was right. Obama and his crew seem to think FDR did a good job. If that's the case then I guess we're going to have a bad economy for 10 years and then a frickin' war? That's what progressives think is good?
