SCOTUS rules AGAINST seicu

This is a big decision, no wonder the left prefers to ignore it. It's amazing that the 9th court of appeals sided with unions who are draining the dwindling resources of the Golden State but it looks like socialism trumps common sense and the rule of law in the liberal mind. Thanks to the Supreme Court in a 7-2 decision people will no longer be forced by fascist union leaders to contribute their hard earned dollars to political causes they do not support. Hooah, one for the good guy.

I would just like to point out to all the mouth breathers who constantly whine about Citizens United as a way for corporations to buy elections this little tidbit from the OP link:

The court ruled for Dianne Knox and other nonmembers of the Service Employees International Union's Local 1000, who wanted to object and opt out of a $12 million special assessment the union required from its California public sector members for political campaigning.

They were extorting money from non-union people to raise money for electioneering.

Oh!! That's GOTTA hurt!

So the next time you open your gob to talk about capitalist pigs and Citizens United, maybe you should just STFU. Next time you talk about some rich guy using his own money, don't forget to mention a public employee union forcing other people to cough up some cash, too.

Why do we still need private sector unions?

Extortion is extortion be it private or public.

I am all for any type of employee unions. These are First Amendment guaranteed.

What needs to go are laws forcing people to comply / join in any fashion, and laws which force employers to recognize and / or arbitrate with them.

With the laws on the books I don't think we really need those either as there are now laws to protect people from the abuses private sector unions originally were created to fight against.

However, it is the private sector. I don't want the govt getting involved, just like with taxes and regulations my opinion is get the govt out of the way. IF a company can be unionized and compete in the market (without subsidies/bailouts) I don't see any problem with them being unionized.

Unions built the manufacturing workers to a level they were proud to go to work every day. I would much rather have private sector unions than have those same people living off the government. JMO

They were good originally, but exhorbitant union demands, wages, benefits, and pensions put manufacturing on foreign soil or out of business. Take another look at GM.
