Scott Brown commits political suicide?

Good post.

I do know much of what you state and all of that I have discussed here and elsewhere. Where I get hung up is the difference in weapons which seem to have no purpose but to kill people versus killing deer. I have discussed Fed versus State bans and of course the fact that illegal guns will exist no matter what ban is in place.

Perhaps but that is where I have been exploring in my own mind.

There are many variations of the type of weapon used by the CT and OR shooters. Both shooters used variations of the AR-15.

The variations are strictly cosmetic. The AWB bans some of the cosmetic variations, and allows others. The underlying weapons itself, though, is freely available. So you don't get to buy an AR-15 with a flash suppressor under the AWB. Big deal. An AR-15 without a flash suppressor is just as deadly as one with a flash suppressor. Same with the pistol hand grip. Does a bullet not fly as fast from the barrel of an AR-15 that does not have the banned pistol hand grip as one that does? Does that really make a difference at the range from which the CT shooter was killing kids?

So then you have to try to find another position farther down the road between freedom and totalitarianism. You have to move toward banning the AR-15 itself.

But then if you ban the AR-15 itself outright, you would have to ban all semi-automatic rifles, and now you are even closer to totalitarianism.

And that is never going to happen. That would be a total violation of the Second Amendment.

.

Very informative. Thank you. So do we know if the cry for a new Fed Ban on AW's will be the same as the earlier one in scope?

That will be the starting point. Senator Feinstein is going to introduce legislation at the start of the year to reinstate the very same AWB that expired in 1994. However, I expect rewriting which will push for more movement down the road toward the totalitarian end of the spectrum.

Like Ft. Hood?

I thought you said you were in the military?

All military weapons are held in the armory when not in use.

I don't know about conceal carry in the military, as that is a new concept since I was active duty.

I can tell you that when I enter a military post with a firearm, I must declare it at the gate, get a police escort to the armory, check it in, return to the gate, check into the instillation with the MP's or DOD Police, then preform my business on post, return to the gate, check out, get another escort back to the armory, retrieve my weapon and get escorted to the gate.

I know that.

So why do military installations have such strict gun control, if it's so unsafe and such a bad idea?

They don't.

When I pulled guard duty, I, an intelligence analyst, was issued a weapon and ammunition and left to preform my duty using my best judgement.

If the post was on alert, everyone was issued a weapon and ammunition and we performed our everyday duties under arms.

Considering Brown's liberal state, this is actually a smart move on his part.

It is. Just like it is a political move on Boehner's part to put off any deal that would raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans until after the vote for Speaker on Jan. 3.

These people are disgusting.

He has never been a rubber stamped R and that is why I supported him. He is not embraced by the Rs imo and I am glad.

Your ridiculously partisan question directed at a huge swath of people, Republicans, is over the top stupid.

I am not with any political party, support the 2nd Amendment and I personally have been soul searching about the use and legality of assault weapons in this country. I have not come to any conclusions like Brown however because I know illegal assault weapons will always be a factor, laws be damned.

Describe assault weapon but dont use the way it looks. Please.

Which types? There are rifles, shotguns and pistols.

A semi automatic weapon with a detachable magazine.

That describes my deer rifle, too...

Meanwhile, how many Rs have expressed sympathy over the mass murder?

Most won't go against the NRA and the NRA really doesn't care.

NRA members know that if there was someone armed at the school the massacre would never have happened.

Like Ft. Hood?

Only the police at Ft. Hood were armed, dumb ass, and they turned that terrorist bastard into a quadriplegic!

Except that person probably would have been shot dead to. The shooter would have had the advantages, of surprise, preparation, and superior weapons. Most likely the only thing that would have happen is one more innocent person would have died.

Just because YOU would be incapable of taking that psycho kid out doesn't mean anyone else would be.

The chances are really quite high that many of those deaths would have been prevented.

Only the Progressive envisions himself a failure when it's CRUNCH TIME.

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) will be departing the Senate at the end of the year, after Democrat Elizabeth Warren defeated him in his bid for reelection. But on Wednesday the moderate Republican stayed true to form, becoming the first senator in his party to announce support for a renewed federal assault weapons ban.

That didn't work at Columbine
But don't let facts get in your way

Do tell, there was an armed school official there?

There was no one other than the perpetrators at columbine who was armed. It was another one of those "gun free zones."
