Will wonders never cease? Harry Reid is unwittingly doing something for the country. He is exposing the long-running lie that says Socialists/Communists/liberals/progressives, etc. forced the Continental Congress to add the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. Of course, Democrats mean the personalty type that promote today’s liberalism were present —— and influential —— when the Constitution was being debated.

NOTE: Today’s liberalism would be dead without tax dollars supporting the parasite class. There were no Socialists/Communists/liberals/progressives spreading their garbage with tax dollars in Colonial America. Indeed, it was the XVI Amendment in 1913 that gave us modern liberalism.

Senator Ted Cruz cites 42 senators with that very same personalty who are trying to abolish the most important Right they claim their political ancestors insisted on:

Incidentally, that type prefers burning books,

but if they cannot get their constitutional amendment they will settle for shutting down freedom of speech on the Internet. See this thread:

The original foundation of "liberalism" was government and society in general free of any hereditary aristocracy.

To Nyvin: It hasn’t been that way since the progressives got started in the late 19th century. They perverted the concept of individual liberties to reinstate all of the evils of monarchy —— hereditary aristocracy. Their greatest philosophical achievement was in convincing compassionate Americans that coerced charity is the same thing as voluntary Christian charity. The XVI Amendment is, by far, their greatest legislative accomplishment. Everything that is tearing down this country today originated with those two progressive “victories.”

Note that Hillary Clinton bragged about being a progressive. In the video she starts out by extolling the beauty of the earliest meaning of liberal, then finishes by promoting big government which is the very thing that destroyed the best definition of liberal.

As to your “hereditary aristocracy”: America is already there The reports of how elected officials are routing big bucks to their kinfolk by going through lobbying firms, passing legislation favorable to themselves, influence peddling, and so on, amounts to an American variation of ancient nepotism. Nancy Pelosi, Senators Di Fi and Reid are noted practitioners of the new nepotism, and let’s not forget political dynasties.

Communist countries and monarchies have much in common, not the least of which is fierce nepotism. Nepotism at the state and local levels is not new. Previously, nepotism meant soft-touch government jobs for relatives. Some years ago approximately 90 Kennedys were holding down tax dollar jobs of one kind or another. I do not know what the total is today. Today, nepotism amounts to millions of tax dollars directed to worthless family members.

Now that nepotism is running rampant in the federal government, America’s early promise of a fair government is further diminished. When you get right down to it, America’s practitioners of nepotism are made from the same mold that produced Napoleon Bonaparte.

Sadly, the US has become a monarchy in everything short of American elitists sporting titles of rank. Just like in a monarchy, Americans do not own their homes because the government can confiscate them at will either through excessive taxation or eminent domain. In addition, the wealthy function as tax collectors for the government as did the land barons of olde who collected taxes for the monarch. All taxes are ultimately paid by working people —— the serfs. That’s why you hear super-rich guys like Warren Buffett calling for tax increases; tax dollars end up in his pocket one way or the other.

This thread talks about private property Rights as the way to reverse America’s return to the evils of monarchy:

First, this is nothing more than a dog and pony show.

The Constitution is very, very difficult to amend.
He will need 2/3 of both Houses and 3/4 of the States.

Harry Reid as about as trustworthy as a cobra. His plan from the beginning was to limit corporate donors while having unlimited union donations. And it backfired big time right in his face because unions are corporations too.

To Vermonter: Quite true.

Backfired is putting it mildly. Democrats losing the ACLU on anything is a major explosion:

Democrats pushing for a constitutional amendment that would give government the authority to regulate political spending by outside groups will do so without one traditional ally at their side.

In a letter submitted Tuesday to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the American Civil Liberties Union expressed opposition to the amendment, saying it would “lead directly to government censorship of political speech and result in a host of unintended consequences that would undermine the goals the amendment has been introduced to advance.”
