To be so smart why do these people act so stupidly?

'Scientists falsify data to get research published and whistleblowers are bullied into keeping quiet,' claim their own colleagues

More than one in ten scientists and doctors claim to have witnessed colleagues deliberately fabricating data in order to get their research published, a new poll has revealed.
The survey of almost 2,800 experts in Britain also found six per cent knew of possible research misconduct at their own institution that has not been properly investigated.
The poll for the hugely-respected British Medical Journal (BMJ) is being presented at a meeting aimed at tackling research misconduct in the UK.

You have to remember that 6% of the scientists are Republican, after all.

I have heard that once or twice. Is that why they do not have a problem falsifying data?

From the OP: "More than one in ten scientists and doctors claim to have witnessed colleagues deliberately fabricating data in order to get their research published, a new poll has revealed."

Huh! Ask your colleagues about others and you'll get lots of he said she said, is this really relivable information or biased BS. Is 'mail online' a valid source of scientific data or simply partisan or corporate crap? Funny how information that supports your present ideas regardless of confirmation is so easily accepted, thankfully most scientists are doing science.

You mean people acted unethically for personal gain? OMG!!!! I can't believe it. I thought scientist were morally inalienable. Aren't they supposed to be impervious to such human fallacies? All is lost! We might as well discredit all further attempts at scientific inquiry and rely on the 'good book' for our knowledge on the physical universe.

...or we could just take what they say with a grain of salt instead of treating it like gospel.
