RED LAKE, Minn. - As many as 14 people were injured and some killed in a shooting Monday at a Minnesota high school, authorities said. Tom Lyons, chief deputy for Beltrami County, said up to 14 people were injured in the mid-afternoon shooting at Red Lake High School in far northern Minnesota. Lyons said a suspect was in custody, but he had no other details.



The FBI (news - web sites) did not say how many people had been killed and also declined to release details.


Red Lake High School, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, has about 300 students, according to its Web site.


Audrey Thayer, who lives in Bemidji and works as a researcher for the American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites)'s Minnesota chapter, said the reservation was locked down by police with roadblocks.


"They have got it closed off," she said.


The reservation is about 240 miles north of the Twin Cities. It is home to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.

RED LAKE, Minn. - A gunman opened fire Monday at a high school on an Indian reservation, killing six people, with the suspect believed among those dead, authorities said. Before the school shootings, a man and a woman were shot in their home and died later.

Six people died in the mid-afternoon shooting at Red Lake High School in far northern Minnesota, including four students. Also killed were a teacher and a security guard, FBI (news - web sites) spokesman Paul McCabe said at a news conference in Minneapolis.


He declined to talk about a possible connection between the suspect and the couple killed at the home.


All of the dead students were in one room, McCabe said.

stuff like this wouldn't surprise me if it happened in the cities, but this is way out in the middle of nowhere.

it's about 258 miles northwest of the cities.

no real solid evidence, but here are a few tidbits that may have contributed:
-the kid's dad killed himself 4 years ago
-the mother is in a nursing home due to a brain injury from an auto accident
-grandpa was in law enforcement (where the kid got the gun), and i believe he was living with him.

kids from the school said he was a loner who always wore black, and was taunted by other kids...

he DID have it pretty rough, but there is always help out there. i wish these types of kids would realize they can take control of their own destiny, and ignore the taunting of the other kids. I was teased and picked on all my life. Never once did I think of opening fire on them.

The fellow was an American Indian with a thing for Hitler. I'll bet there were other things going on in his head. But I'm sure the media will use this as proof that 1) guns should be banned and 2) Nazi websites should be censored. Never mind that that the kid's not white! AUSTIN, TX (NNN) - The Libertarian National Socialist Green Party, on whose messageboard Jeff Weise posted one year before shooting people at his Minnesota high school, today refused to wring hands over a "tragedy," instead pointing out that such events are to be expected when thinking people are crammed into an unthinking, irrational modern society. According to the LNSG, the school shooting itself is not our failure; society is our failure, and the school shooting is a symptom.

"We knew [Weise] briefly through 34 posts he made on the forum," said LNSGP forum administrator Atem. "He expressed himself well and was clearly highly intelligent and contemplative, especially for one so young." Weise participated in the forum in part because, unlike "white nationalist" or "white power" movements, the LNSG embraces all races as part of its vision of world nationalism. His statements on the site reflected a frustration with the populist politics and materialistic arrogance of modern society.

Weise most clearly expressed his philosophy in the following statement of frustration with the raceless, cultureless void of liberal industrial society: "The Natives you've known to be sympathetic to the cause are probably ones who've experienced firsthand what kind of problems cultural and race mixing can cause. As a result of cultural dominance and interracial mixing there are barely any full blooded Natives left. Where I live less than 1% of all the people on the Reservation can speak their own language, and among the youth wanting to be black has run rampant. Under a National Socialist government, things for us would improve vastly... That is, if we haven't already become too soft from the way this materialistic life-style has made us, and that is why I am pro-Nazi. It's hard though, being a Native American National Socialist; people are so misinformed, ignorant, and closed-minded it makes your life a living hell."

National Socialism is a philosophy that, unlike the beliefs of modern society which are founded in material technology and abstract moral ideas about what should be, is based in the realism of nature. Each tribe must separate itself genetically from all others in order to survive, as otherwise it is assimilated; further, National Socialism recognizes that the individual comes second to the collective, comprising both human society and the natural environment that supports it. As a result, National Socialists are willing to engage in eugenics, racial separation and removal of elements hostile to a healthy society.

Modern society, in contrast, is based around the belief that the individual alone is supreme - a belief system that finds no opposition among the masses, who often fear their own inadequacies. Such societies turn toward liberal democracy, and thus permit public image manipulation to determine their course, while behind the scenes an oligarchy of the international wealthy manipulate politics and social trends for their own profit. The result is widespread environmental destruction, loss of ethnic-cultural heritage, a dysgenic program of rewarding the most subservient, and dominion by mass tastes that contradicts any thought of doing what is right for the whole.

Modernity is insane. The constraints of modern societies like the United States prevent the individual from publically acclaiming National Socialism or any other non-modernist solution without fear of losing jobs, friends and potential mates through social alienation. For this reason, the thinking individual is forced into a desperate position of seeing the downfall of our civilization at hand, but is prevented from speaking up unless that individual is willing to sacrifice his or her life for an impoverished, isolated existence, jail time, or suicide.

The school shooting in Red Lake, Minnesota will surprise no one who is familiar with this condition. Modernity is the root cause, and there are many symptoms of its effects, including school and workplace shootings, racial conflict, and ecoterrorism. The LNSG encourages all who are emotionally affected by today's events to embark on a course of changing modern society instead of blaming Jeff Weise or others who have brought this problem to your attention.

And that for all the dubious talk about a ''Holocaust,'' you never hear about the good things Adolf Hitler did.

I also read the posts that Weise left on the site's bulletin board. I was particularly interested in the one asking if the group would accept him, given that he was a Chippewa Indian. Weise was friendless, his father was dead, his mother in a nursing home, so there was something poignant and needy in the asking.

In all, I spent half an hour on nazi.org. It gave me a headache.

TIMES HAVE CHANGED

Used to be easier to laugh this stuff off. Once, when I was in college, a man in a ''White Power'' T-shirt came into the bookstore where I worked. My friend Cathy, who was white, promptly plopped herself in my lap, pecked me on the cheek and asked loudly when I might be ''home'' for dinner.

Mr. White Power glared at us, then beat a quick retreat.

Thirty years later, it's harder to respond to the apostles of organized hatred. Not just because the Internet gives them a reach no guy in a T-shirt could match, but because many have refined their message, made it slicker, given it a patina of reason.

The teenage son of Red Lake Tribal Chairman Floyd Jourdain Jr. was charged with conspiracy Monday in connection with the March 21 shootings that killed 10 people, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

The source said that Louis Jourdain, who is believed to be 16 or 17, plotted with the gunman, Jeffrey Weise, to violently attack Red Lake High School.

Jourdain was arrested without incident Sunday on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, the source said. No other arrests are imminent, the source said.

U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger refused to confirm who had been arrested. He said that juvenile proceedings have begun for the suspect in federal court, but he wouldn't comment on what role the younger Jourdain might have played in the shootings.

The age-old story of high school life for the non-affluent, underprivileged, different. How many other teenagers are in that same situation today? Teased, made fun of by their peers for one reason or another, picked on day in and day out simply for the amusement of others. Unable to make friends and evidently having no support system in place, how many will end up a suicide like Jeff Weise and possibly take others with them in the commission of the act?
