No end in sight to U.S. economic crisis as 'scariest jobs chart ever' shows post-recession unemployment is at its worst since World War TwoBy Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 2:09 PM on 6th December 2010

As unemployment in the U.S. nears the dreaded 10 per cent mark, it is a chart to chill the bones of any job hunter.
Comparing previous recoveries from all 10 American recessions since 1948 to the current financial crisis, the stark figures show almost no improvement in employment figures in the past year.
Some commentators have described the comparison as 'the scariest jobs chart ever', pointing to the fact that only the 2001 recession took longer to bring employment back to pre-crisis levels.
Even then, the total percentage of jobs lost bottomed out at two per cent, compared with six per cent this time round.
The job chart will heap further pressure on Barack Obama's attempt to stimulate the economy as plans were drawn for a temporary extension of the Bush-era tax rates for all taxpayers.
The bipartisan economic package would also extend jobless benefits for millions of Americans.
Differences remained over details, including White House demands for middle and low-income tax credits.

But Republicans and Democrats appeared to come together yesterday, raising the possibility of a deal in Congress by the end of the week.
Some Democrats continued to object to extending current reduced tax rates for high earners.
The action is needed to prevent the delivery of a tax hike to all taxpayers at the end of the year when the current rates expire and revert to higher pre-2001 and 2003 levels.

What's the unemployment rate for people making over 250,000 taxable?

What was the unemployment rate in the 50's when the top tax rate was about 90%?

hmmm...guess what...

...it's not taxes causing the problem. You're retarded if you think so.

That 90% tax rate applied to incomes in 1950's dollars of over $400,000.

In 2010 dollars, that's over $3M per year.

For those of us with Math Skills, $3M is a far bigger number than $250,000.

OK... Skook's foolish graphics and rhetoric aside...

1. In the 1950's there were no women in the workforce.
Why does this matter, you may ask? Because as a percentage of the population, the amount of people available to work has doubled, making historical comparison useless in the way you are making them.
For instance, let's take a period where the unemployment rate was 25%, in the middle of the depression. If you counted the same percentage of the population that you have now actively seeking work, it would have been a 50% unemployment rate.

And

2. American corporations just had their MOST PROFITABLE QUARTER IN HISTORY, Yet the unemployment rate is near 10%.

Obviously the richer folks are making plenty of profit already, and they're not hiring, so how would cutting taxes get them to hire any more Americans than they are now?

You're correct. These idiots have spent us into the poorhouse...and are demanding MORE.

All of the idiots have spent us into the poorhouse.

Taking into consideration all of the congresses and administrations since 1970, Republicans have created slightly more debt than Democrats.

Statistically incorrect, bub.

Women were in the labor force in the 1950s, just not at the rate today.

It was hyperbole to prove a point.

Of course there were some women in the workforce, but nowhere near the levels we have today.

And the hyperbole is in fact basically accurate for pre-WWII data.

But what we didn't have in the workforce back in the '50s were Chinese workers willing to work for a dollar a day and competing for jobs with American workers.
