Justice Scalia is speaking out for Christians and Christian values and for Traditional interpretations of the Constitution. He has the funny notion that the Constitution should be interpreted as it is and things shouldnt be read into it that arent there. I know its totally radical. anyway i figured this should be in the political section for now atleast. Im not sure which direction this thread will take though.

I agree with this in some ways and not in others. The ability to address issues not germaine to the founders has always been a problem. I guess best assumed under the 'necessary and proper' clause to congress. Then onto the courts.

I would guess that Christians are willing to take even a hint of support from a Supreme Court Justice as a positive sign right now.

I'm torn between supporting either Scalia or Thomas for Chief Justice... not that my voice matters in the selection. But both are excellent judges.

Scalia rocks. I am currently in a battle on another board regarding the separation issue of the first amendment. The battle is boiling down to an attorney quoting opinions and jeffersons letter, dating back to 1791 or so. I keep saying that the opinions are flawed because they draw a conclusion not found in the constitution. But Scalia would agree with me. Works for me. Hope he gets the nod as Chief Justice as soon as the opening appears.

Regardless either one will be Chief Justice pretty soon. Your voice has mattered in the selection. You helped elected the President and well i hope your Senators are the ones you voted for. Thats how we voice our opinions on this.

When the time comes though its going to be a tough fight regardless. I actually think Scalia might have an easier time becoming Chief Justice because while i know the Dems hate him and will oppose him like mad, Thomas is more of a threat to them. And trust me they will fight the appointment of the first black judge to Chief justice because he threatens their base and because he is as conservative as Scalia.

Which is why I support Thomas more. Showing their base that they care little for their progress, and take their vote for granted, would be priceless.
