Very nice news.

"WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first major pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history.

The court's 5-4 ruling struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns as incompatible with gun rights under the Second Amendment. The decision went further than even the Bush administration wanted, but probably leaves most firearms laws intact."

where in the US Constitution does it mention 'hunting'?

what state legislature has BANNED hunting?

I have to admit.. I'm having three shades of fun knowing how many red faced gun haters will be swallowing vitriol today.

What's really scary about this ruling is that there were 4 judges against it….4 liberal judges who wanted to amend our Constitution from the bench…

Considering that hunting is not mentioned in the Constitution, would it not be a power granted by the 10th Amendment to the people/state? Just because the Constitution doesn't mention hunting, doesn't mean that you can't hunt...It doesn't forbid you from hunting either.

Just surfed through some lib sites, should have seen the boo hooing. Some of them are actually saying Bush order the Supreme Court to rule this way.

:clap2:

Ninja gloat-fest 2008 has been in full effect 'round these parts.

Gun snatchers are responsible for this, however. 30 years of radical anti-gun legislation... And yet the gun rights movement is as strong as ever... Suck it bitches...

If you own a gun, you are three times more likely to die from gun violence. Guns are mostly a danger to their owners.

Umm...okay. Just a little something on that 5 to 4 ruling, if it had been the other way around you could multiply ruby ridge by some exponential factor as to what would transpire in this country.

The supreme court has once again demonstrated its fascist tilt with a ruling that removes a state's right to make its own decision. Activist judges have interpreted a 200 year old rule as if we all lived in Mayberry.

Actually it's the DC politicians who think they live in Mayberry and therefore no one needs guns. The Supreme Court just told them, nope, you live in Murderville, USA, population - decreasing by the minute.

Profound :cuckoo:

Obviously by merit of owning a gun, you're more likely to be killed by your own gun than someone who doesn't own a gun.

Any 2-year-old can tell you that if you don't own a gun, your chances of being killed by your own gun approach zero.

But your chance of using lethal force during, say, a home invasion, approaches zero as well.

If I'm every killed by one of my fine firearms (I won't be), anyone is free to come mock me at my funeral.

But if you're ever victimized by violent crime, don't ask for my sympathy. I have no respect for those who voluntarily disarm themselves.

You haven't a clue what the Constitution means. Nor how our courts work. You are a socialist twit that would sell out all our rights and freedoms in a heart beat. You prove it with every thread you start and every reply you make in threads like this.

This campaign was awful funny considering this case that was pending huh??

Searching private homes for guns proposed in D.C.

The District of Columbia police department is preparing to launch a massive new home-by-home search program to confiscate and destroy handguns, despite arguments pending before the U.S. Supreme Court that challenges the constitutionality of its ban on residents having such weapons.

"Right now we're working under the laws that we have, and we'll continue working under the laws that we have," Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in announcing the program that targets all handguns in the district.

The voluntary program would work like this, according to Traci Hughes, an official with the Metropolitan Police Department: Residents of homes or apartments would contact police and ask them to come and search for such weaponry, they would sign a release, and officers would conduct the search.

---I wonder if those people who gave up their guns for amnesty, will be able to get their guns back.....LOL

I like the way you didn't engage in ad hominem but got right to the point.

Facts On Gun Deaths In The USA

"The Americans value their constitution and the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment deals with the right to bear arms. Here is the price that ordinary Americans are paying for the privilege

- 8 children a day die in murders, suicides and accidents involving guns

- since John F. Kennedy was assassinated more Americans have died from gunshot wounds at home than died in all the wars of the 20th century

- Osama bin Laden would need at least nine twin towers like attacks each year to equal what Americans do to themselves every year with guns.

- Murder rates in LA, NY and Chignon were approaching the highest in the world (30 per 100,000) until moves were made in late 20th century to restrict access to guns to teenagers. (The NRA wants these moves reversed)

If Osama bin Laden had had more sense, instead of launching a terrorist attack, he would simply have provided financial backing to the NRA."

You do realize taking completely unrelated stats and comparing them is assinine? Tell me again what 9/11 has to do with handguns?
