(Note: This is/was the OP of a thread I started on this point. When I found out there were a number of other threads on the same topic, I asked to have the thread deleted. Modbert merged it into this thread.)

Do you know who Alvin Greene is? No? Not surprised. He is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator from the Great State of South Carolina or, as Jon Stweart refers to it, "the whoopie cushion of America."

In a nutshell, it looks as though the S.C. Democrats have put some type of nut case in as their Senatorial cadidate come next November. In television interviews, Mr. Greene appears to be either cognitavely challenged or stoned out of his mind on downers, or both. He has a criminal record. He is virtually unknown.

We have embarrassment fatigue here," former state Democratic chairman Dick Harpootlian told the Times. "If there is an embarrassment equivalent of post-traumatic stress disorder, South Carolina has it."

An unemployed veteran with no apparent public recognition who also happens to be facing felony obscenity charges stemming from a November incident in which he allegedly showed pornography to a college student being labeled an "embarrassment"? Once again the establishment shows just how woefully out of touch it truly is.

Here, read all about it and then come on back . . .

Unemployed, felony-facing political novice Alvin Greene wins South Carolina senate primary - General News

Here's the interesting part. He claims to have no money. Yet, he was able to put up the $10,000 filing fee required for getting himslef into the primary in S.C. Where did that money come from? Senatorial candidate Greene is vague when asked this, quickly reverting to his usual, bummed out appearance.

Are you ready for this? He got the nomination by some 60% of the vote! 60%!!! That's HUGE, as we all know. I can understand the people of South Carolina voting a guy like this into the nomination - but I can't understand the Democratic Committee of S.C. allowing it to happen. Didn't anyone there pause to think, God - what if this guy actually gets the nomination? We'll go down in FLAMES come the general election. Which causes me to speculate - God, is Karl Rove behind this? It has Rove WRITTEN ALL OVER IT. This from the linked article:

Rep. Jim Clyburn, perhaps to the most powerful Democrat in the state, has publicly accused Greene of being a Republican plant placed on the ballot by GOP operatives seeking to undermine any serious challenge to DeMint.

Comments?

My original understanding was that Green didn't campaign and other guy did.

It turns out that neither side spent any money on the campaign. The other guy was hopng to get by on name recognition.

It didn't work. All the voters had to go by was the names on the ballot. And Green came first

BTW, this is the 5th thread on this

Right. They were speculating on The Daily Show that this was the main reason he won, which caused Stewart to comment that he is looking forward to the next Governor of South Carolina - Aaron Aardvark.

Only in South Carolina. Not a chance against DeMint.

And that, of course, is the whole point of it. Greene is a Republican plant. Smooth move, S.C. Republican Committee.

Those Republicans are geniuses.

They plant a guy in an election, then do not have him campaign, spend any money, or even set up a web site, and he wins anyway. The Democrats are doomed.

Even the Dems are backing away from this claim, and the SC Democratic party is scrambling to figure out what to do.

Greene is not a Republican plant. The Republicans aren't going to spend $10 grand paying for a guy's filing fee to not have him do the slightest bit of campaigning and almost assuredly lose. The odds of Greene winning were like a million to one. The fact of the matter is Democratic primary voters voted for an idiot, plain and simple.

It's unlikely DeMint would lose no matter who is opponent is anyway.

Dems try to bribe him out yet? Man,the Democrats are so corrupt at this point. This guy's a real winner. Yikes!
