CNN -- A Saudi Arabian court has sentenced a 75-year-old Syrian woman to 40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the kingdom for having two unrelated men in her house, according to local media reports.

According to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan, troubles for the woman, Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi, began last year when a member of the religious police entered her house in the city of Al-Chamli and found her with two unrelated men, "Fahd" and "Hadian."

Fahd told the policeman that he had the right to be there, because Sawadi had breast-fed him as a baby and was therefore considered to be a son to her in Islam, according to Al-Watan. Fahd, 24, added that his friend Hadian was escorting him as he delivered bread for the elderly woman. The policeman then arrested both men.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism and punishes unrelated men and women who are caught mingling.

The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, feared by many Saudis, is made up of several thousand religious policemen charged with duties such as enforcing dress codes, prayer times and segregation of the sexes. Under Saudi law, women face many restrictions, including a strict dress code and a ban on driving. Women also need to have a man's permission to travel.

It's a shame they don't have Wahhabism in Gaza. I'll bet Hilary wasn't chaperoned by a family member last week. :whip:

they are the enemy....bin laden comes from that rearing....wahhabism, as well.

we've turned a blind eye, for oil...

iraq, although women could be sent to what some called ''rape chambers'' of the sons of saddam, the society in iraq was liberated, not wahhabis, women worked, drove, and very well educated compared to most of the middle east...

i was still in high school and worked part time, with a girl a lttle older than me from iraq who was here on a visa, going to a university here...she was a remarkably bright and filled with a joyous personality...spoke english perfectly, very slight accent, studying medical technology so she could be a med tech back in iraq....this was during the time of the hostages in iran...right before they were released.

i remember once we all went out for am ice creme sunday after work and the hostage crisis came up...she made certain she told us she was from Iraq, where the good guys were, and that she was iraqi, NOT iranean!!!

Her name was Hamidah, don't remember her last name....i hope she is still alive, and wasn't killed in this war.... :(

Funny how things change....or maybe, not so funny....

care

Saudi Arabia's ostensibly Islamic justice system is a complete sham. Generally, these controversial rulings are made with complete disregard for what is actually said in the Qur'an or their Sunni ahadith. That a punishment exists for mingling with unrelated members of the opposite sex is ridiculous... Allah's messenger himself would be guilty of "mingling" under Saudi law.

What an appropriate time to recall the March 11, 2002 anniversary of the deaths of 14 young Saudi girls: ‘Religious Police’ in Saudi Arabia prevented firemen from entering a burning girls’ school where unmarried girls were living, resulting in 14 deaths.

I'm not surprised that this happened. Saudi Arabia many times enforces the extent of punishment for any inkling of going against Qur'anic teachings. She in that society implied fornication because she didn't protect herself by retaining a chaperon to bear witness against lies, innuendos, and charges concerning her moral conviction among men--no matter what the age.

She and the men in her company are Blessed they weren't stoned to death. I imagine that was not enacted because there remained doubt as to what actually happened.

Wow, thanks for the explanation, I think. I guess the Queen of Hearts must be Moslem:

"May it please your Majesty,' said Two, in a very humble tone, going down on one knee as he spoke, `we were trying--'

`I see!' said the Queen, who had meanwhile been examining the roses. `Off with their heads!' and the procession moved on, three of the soldiers remaining behind to execute the unfortunate gardeners, who ran to Alice for protection."

she was 70 years old, i seriously doubt someone could get anything in that shriveled vagina if they wanted to....she fed this child, the man of 24.... when he was a baby for goodness sake...

did our gvt speak out against this?

What's the surprise? Saudi Arabia is basically the most totalitarian fundamentalist regime in the world, funded and armed straight from the Pentagon for decades. But hey, you know what they say, lay down with dogs...
