The controversy over the Riviera beach closed off to the public for the Saudi king’s holiday took another twist when it emerged that he asked French police not to post any women officers there while royal menfolk take a dip in the sea.
King Salman arrived in France last weekend for a three-week stay, bringing with him no fewer than 1,000 people from his entourage who will stay in his huge villa in overlooking the Mirandole beach or in nearby hotels.
The visit is a major boost for the local economy, but it also sparked anger because local authorities allowed him to block public access to the beach which under French law is supposed to be open for all to enjoy.
