That's the reason the Left goes after Palin so hard, they're trying to goad her into running. Same as the Right kept trying to goad Hillary into running.

McCain, btw, was picked by the GOP nomination process as a direct counter to Hillary. Hillary was roundly expected to win her nomination process by the Right, and as such they'd geared up for her. Remember the "Stop Hillary Express"?

The day Hillary lost to Obama was a disaster for the GOP. They lost a lot of opposition research and a great deal of planning. They'd picked the perfect anti-Hillary candidate and lost.
