I grew up catholic and thought it was all pretty weird. The constant changing of standing/sitting/kneeling during mass, eating gross crackers makes me holier, dipping my fingers in disgusting sitting water that 100 other hands had been in and putting it on my face made me holier, etc.

All those things including what Santorum did are weird, but not the least bit immoral or wrong.

I'm a non-demoninational Protestant - albeit a lazy one - but married into a Catholic family. My wife grew up in a strict Catholic household and no longer attends, so when my mother-in-law started coming to visit, I was the one who would take her to church. I was surprised at how ritualistic the Catholic Church was, with all the sitting and standing and chanting and repeating after the Priest, and so on.

Yeah, but they still don't play with dead babies.

There are Cultures around the World where People do. Keep it up for Shock Value though.

Santorum's view is in line with Catholic beliefs that life begins at conception. So bringing a body home before a funeral isn't that unusual.

I think it's a bit weird, but as someone who was brought up Catholic, not really that odd for the devout.

I'll admit, the repeated cruelty that made up Catholic education turned me off, but they did a pretty good job. I can actually structure a sentence, unlike most of the Public School kids who had teachers who simply didn't give a damn.

I stopped believing when my mom passed away, because I and my whole family and the whole parish prayed for her to get better. (She was a popular art teacher at the local school.) Then the Nun said at her wake, "Well, God had to have a good reason."

One can manufacture anything. That is missing the point though. Just imagine that there is one God, it is not you or I, yet we are accountable in all things, whether one believes or not, there is no escaping Cause and Effect. So why not just roll with it and learn from experience. Why do you think you need to possess all the Mysteries of Creation, in this Lifetime? Why make believe you do.

God first in all things, by whatever name you call Him. Learn from your mistakes, try not to repeat them. Believe in the Holy Spirit or do you need Bedtime stories to get through the night? It's up to you. I personally do not mock the Forces of Creation, that too, is missing the point.The time you waste is on you, no one else.

From a Spiritual Sense there is Vision, Purpose, Dream, Discovery, Invention. What motivates you. What is Clarity of Purpose to You? What is the shortest route between two points? Mocking people for how they believe, seems like a waste of time and energy, in the end, maybe like pissing on the third rail. Very self destructive.

Yes it is....a wake is usual. Bringing home a dead body for your kids to interact with is very unusual. Not to mention nutty as hell.

Unusual to you. Actually, for most of history, that was normal. Funerals were held in homes.

It's only in the last century that you've developed this creepy as hell industry called the "Funeral Home", which is the last chance for the churches to gogue you on the way out.

But thanks for finally being honest enough to admit that the kids weren't "Playing" with the dead baby, they were only "interacting" with it.

Looking at it from his families point of view. Devout Catholics. The Unborn are people. Mommy's going to have a baby and something goes wrong. The baby dies, but they show the baby to the other kids so they know, "This is your brother and he's with God now."

Again, not a religious man, but I can occassionally sympathize with people who are. Nothing tests your faith more than when a loved one dies.

It wasn't a funeral, it wasn't a wake. There was nothing usual about it and it is not something the vast majority of Catholics do.
