My Way News - Santorum: Trim Social Security now even if painful
KEENE, N.H. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum called Friday for immediate cuts to Social Security benefits, risking the wrath of older voters and countless others who balk at changes to the entitlement program.

"We can't wait 10 years," even though "everybody wants to," Santorum told a crowd while campaigning in New Hampshire and looking to set himself apart from his Republican rivals four days before the New Hampshire primary.

Most of his opponents have advocated phasing in a reduction and say immediate cuts would be too big a shock to current and soon-to-be retirees.

We have enough money to fund Social Security if we get rid of the Federal Reserve. Americans don't need austerity, the Central Banks do!

SS is important to keep the purchasing power in the market up. If people don’t have any money to buy products, more jobs will be lost.

I think it’s smarter to look at money spent overseas on military, that’s what’s kills jobs and causes debts. Money spent on the home market even if it’s ss create jobs since people use the money to buy products, military spending overseas kills jobs and causes inflation.

This guy is dead serious to...Expect to go back to the 19th century when everyone worked and made there own money. Period. No more government in our fucking lifes anymore!
Nah, if Santorum is president the government will be in our bedrooms.

Exactly. The same RW'ers that say they want government out of their lives are the first ones to say they want government controlling every aspect of our private lives and decisions. Can anyone say "hypocrites"?

On the other hand I can see where government involvement in creating business regulations sure hurts the ability of companies to make money. Just think how much more money they can make if we did away with those pesky worker safety laws, environmental laws, child labor laws, overtime laws, the 40 hour work week, workers comp, etc..

Controlling people's personal lives and releasing companies from all social and environmental responsibilities. It would be a wingnut utopia!!

Corporate Liberals are destroying this country!

What American would choose to disolve the social safety net instead of going after the legal plunder?

RON PAUL has a plan to cut 1 trillion in spending, without touching a single social program.

WAR AND LEGAL PLUNDER IS THE CANCER. SOCIAL PROGRAMS ARE LIKE A SUPERFICIAL MOLE IN COMPARISON.

LOL. Well, Santorum seems to be an ass on every issue. But the Evangelicals, at least the non-Bible reading ones will flock to him.

I would not vote for Santorum ever but he is right on social security.
Especially Medicare. Managed Care plans send $1200 amonth to the insurance companies for the senior care.
How can we afford that long term?
Arguments that social security is needed to prop up the economy are bogus. Slowing the growth of social security is the cuts needed. Along with eliminating the age 62 option.

YOU HAVE BEEN TRAGICALLY MISINFORMED if you think that Ron Paul's platform says that.

Seriously where the hell did you read that?

Not in his books, that's for DAMNED sure.

RP's ideal society is for a modified Keynsian society...a DICKensian society.

Democrats have wanted a means test for social security for years. Why should the wealthy elderly get money from the government? Democrats don't want to trim it, but end it completely. Is Rick sounding too liberal for you?
