Santorum Bashes Public Schools, Says They're Stuck In Factory Era

The drain on the systems due to retired teachers is vast in Georgia.
We know many retired in their early 50s.
Insane system. Why do they get to retire at age 52?
Estimates now are that these retirees will cost over 1 million a piece after retirement. In 14 years it will be 2 million a piece to pay for their retirement, health benefits and retirement pay.
Average retirement span now is 23 years for these folks and growing every year.
There is your $$$ if anyone has the guts to change the system.

And this is in Georgia? A RTW GOP controlled state? How can that be? I thought the GOP had all of the answers....

That is exactly my point.

Unions make it worse. All they do is increase the cost to taxpayers for union bosses and their lines and lines and lines of union cronies.
Parents are the problem.

The unique thing about positions, are the demographics. The same party can be at opposite ends of the spectrum depending on location.

Unfortunately for your claim, teachers aren't paid according to how well they do their jobs.[/B] They are paid according to seniority. You failed to show any correlation between spending on education and student achievement.

Ok....how would you set that up? Who would do the judging? What criteria would you set? How much more would you pay a teacher who performs well?

What difference does it make? The bottom line is that the poster didn't provide evidence that paying teachers more produces better outcomes for students.

Oh, we have a problem with health care.
We need to pay health care workers more.
We have a problem with crime.
We need to pay police more.
We have a problem with high school drop out rates.
We need to pay teachers more.
PARENTS are the problem, not $$$.

We just reached another milestone according to the NY Times.

50% Of all births in the US are now to single parents. Up from 40%

So it's the parents fault that class sizes are almost double what they should be, schools are closing down, teachers are being laid off and they don't get paid what they should in the first place? It's the parents fault that school after school has to cut sports and music programs? It's the parents fault that more schools have to cut their bus programs for rural kids? It's the parents fault that teachers have to purchase paper and pencils for their classes with their own money? This is all because schools get too much money?

thats the people who are running the schools fault.....the parents need to get involved with what the kid is doing in school and how well the kid is doing....California has dumped billions into the system....when i came out here in 67 Cal was top 5 in the nation....now i keep seeing things saying they are in the 40's......throwing money obviously aint the answer.....

So where is all this fucking money going? It isn't going to the schools...

good Question.....i have heard for years now that the Lottery money that goes to the schools is a crock of shit.....what i mean is i have heard that if the Lottery makes say 20 billion for the schools, they take 20 billion out of the schools budget and use elsewhere,so in effect the so called "EXTRA" Lottery Money going to the schools is bullshit.....nothing changes.....

Good little sheeple.
You're as dumb as Santorum wants you to be.

And you are as dumb as the public school system sought out to make you. Sad, really.

and you and the others are too fucking stupid to realize local and state run fucking public schools.

Ricks ignorance once again is showing....and so is yours.
And state gubmint has proven just as bungling, incompetent and financially irresponsible as the feds....As though that's proof that they need even more taxpayer loot thrown at them.

^^^^^^
This...QFT.

d. Pay more taxes and fund the poor public schools.
.

bullshit.....out here the good neighborhoods have some pretty nice schools, the not so great ones have some pretty shitty schools that dont have no where near what the nicer ones have....and like i have said.....California pumps billions into the Educational system...i dont care how much taxes you wanna pay....the most money and the best stuff goes to the nicer parts of town....in this respect Democrats are no different than Republicans......

Santorum Bashes Public Schools, Says They're Stuck In Factory Era

By Mitchell Landsberg February 18, 2012

Reporting from Columbus, Ohio— Republican GOP hopeful Rick Santorum may be the most prominent homeschooler in America. So it might not have been surprising that, on Saturday, he told a conservative Christian audience that he intended to homeschool his children in the White House.

In his remarks to the Ohio Christian Alliance, however, Santorum went further, seeming to attack the very idea of public education.

In the nation’s past, he said, “Most presidents homeschooled their children in the White House.… Parents educated their children because it was their responsibility.”

“Yes, the government can help,” he continued, “but the idea that the federal government should be running schools, frankly much less that the state government should be running schools, is anachronistic.”

He is so fucking right! Public schools force our children to learn agenda of the federal government, instead of learning how to think. Santorum is right!
I think that the red states that want to should be allowed to eliminate public schools. Let's see how they fare in a decade or so.

We do not value our teachers, nurses, or military and pay them accordingly. Thus the high turn over and general lack of respect.

Fine then deal with it in your state but to say the feds have control is a lie.
And these fucks eat this ignorance up.
The feds have control of curriculum, along with a share of the money that states get for edumacation.

In any case, gubmint schools are a towering failure.

Why are they a failure?
What's one of the fastest growing college freshman class offerings?

If that's not evidence of failure, what would be?

You forget that more people are going to college in this generation. More than were even expected to finish high school in past generations. It's like expanding the NBA, NFL, and MLB to almost everyone. Would they be considered failures then with those playing that have no talent to do so?

The reason they are so screwed up is because the government has been "fixing" them for years. If the government would allow teachers to teach basics instead of an agenda, they'd be fine. There are always strings attached to the money they get and for a long time, it was about outcome-based education.

Of course, if government quit interferring and messing things up, they wouldn't have any crisis to run on. They need problems in order to tout themselves as the solution. Anyone paying attention knows that government is the root cause of most problems. They have to create problems to throw money at, make them worse, then use it as an excuse to take more of our money. I think the majority of money taken in the name of education has gone to shore up union benefits and pensions. Doesn't help the children at all, but a lot of the money comes right back to politicians in campaign contributions. Meanwhile, the children get dumbed down and the schools continue to deteriorate. That's our government at work for you.

No, no they dont and your ignorance says stop fucking talking about the failure of publc education when you cant even get simple facts right.

Which actually is ironical.

If you have a problem with how your school is being run, then go down to your local school board and demand a change.
Yes, the feds do control curriculum, by bribing state education boards to get the pittance that the DoE gives them...That's how the federal extortion game works from education, to highway funding, to ag subsidies.

And the fact that remedial classes are one of the fastest growing classes for college freshmen is right in front of your face.

Like everything else gubmint fools with, their schools suck on toast.
