I was not aware of this.Reminds me of the JFK assassination were documents were CLASSIFIED by our government for over thirty years and still would have been if not for patriot Oliver Stone when he made his movie which is the only reason so many that were supressed for so many years then got declassified,most being blacked out of course.

Are still classified details from the Civil War. Isn't that anything interesting happened so much as the classification bureaucracy is an ungainly clumsy beast.

As with making a new law, classifying something is relatively easy and straight-foward. Repealing a law, or declassifying something is much more complicated. So silly laws stay on the legal books just as things once classified often end up remaining classified for eternity.
