In an incredible cross-coalition vote by the Justices on the SCOTUS, sales tax is now allowed on virtually all internet sales.

Kennedy, a swing voter, and Ginsberg, and activist voter, combined with Gorsuch, who has a previous pro-state pro-Colorado history on this issue, together with two unlikely allies who are both strict constructionist -- Alito and Thomas. Essentially, Alito and Tomas voted that since the Congress had been unable for the past 25 years to settle this issue legislatively, they would join Kennedy, Ginsberg, and Gorsuch in legislating it now.

On the other hand, ironically, the 3 classic activist justices all voted against this activist ruling -- Kagan, Sotomayor, and Breyer. Chief Justice Roberts stayed true to his colors of strict constructionism and voted against it as well.

What a surprise mix of votes.

Now all they have to figure out is how sellers comply with 56,000 taxing authorities. Piece of cake, right?

Good ruling, consistent with the Constitution and case law, and is going to be a nightmare to get right.
