Design News - Wolfe's Den - Salary Survey Says You Make $93,465

Design engineers have gotten an increase in their own personal debt ceilings. According to just-in data from our 2011 salary survey, Design News readers have received their first increases in average base salary in two full years. Average annual earnings were $93,465, which is a 4.3 percent increase from the $89,597 average reported last year. (The latter number was down slightly compared to 2009.)

More good news: 65 percent of respondents saw their base annual salaries jump, compared to 40 percent in last year's survey. Only four percent saw a drop, as opposed to nine percent in 2010.

Guess it's not all gloom and doom.

Because that shows the value of education. Sorry that was lost on the right wing. Oops.

I know an electrician who made 200K last year without a college degree.

I know an insurance salesman who made over 300K last year without a college degree

I know an auto body shop owner who made over 180K last year without a college degree.

Too bad hard work is lost on you dimwit dimocrats.

The value of education for Designers?
WTF does this have to do with anything/anyone but designers?
I don't mean to be harsh or an ass...but this is in the economic section which alludes to this having something to do with a greater impact than just one tiny piece of the economy.

Those salaries are not too good for an engineer

Well, there you go. That's why Republicans feel education is worthless.

Takes a small number of engineers to design something, but thousands of workers to build and sell it.

Did those words really need to be spoken?

An engineer is just another worker. It's why so many people go into "banking" or "law" or "accounting". People who handle a lot of money tend to end up with some.

The benefits of engineering are security, low unemployment rate, and the thrill of the design. That can't be stressed enough. To design something, have it made and sold is unbelievable. Gives an incredible feeling of accomplishment.

Been one for 33 years.....engineering is the hardest bachelors degree to obtain but as a career you still do better than your average accountant, banker or lawyer

True. Math, Physics etc...
And departments/faculties are mostly seperated, so most women are in the economics building.

Two of the engineers where I work are women. One is electrical/programmer the other is electrical. Neither from this country.

The only area that attracts women in engineering is machine-building.
But even there they are the minority.

That can change. Republicans need to go to school. They can say what they want, but school and education are important.
