Looking for a little action?
You might want to try the San Francisco County Jail’s San Bruno lockup, where authorities have installed 16 condom machines for the jail’s 750 prisoners.
The condom dispensers are the latest evolution in a safe-sex program that began in 1989, when health workers began distributing condoms to inmates as part of their counseling before they were released.
And although sex among inmates technically is illegal, the Sheriff’s Department went ahead and installed the 16 machines anyway – one for each jailhouse pod – paid for by a pair of small grants from UCSF and a Southern California nonprofit.
“It may be controversial,” Sheriff Michael Hennessey said, “but I think the larger health education message is important.”
As for the chance that all those machines will actually promote jailhouse sex?
The sex already takes place, says Kate Monico Klein, who is directing the program for the city’s Public Health Department. “If (providing condoms) saves one or two lives, it’s worth it,” she said.
Rest here>>>

I imagine the jailhouse sex is about domination/ submission. No doubt condoms aren't a huge consideration in that equation...

I don't see what's wrong with this. Prison rape happens and I don't think it can be completely stopped. If someone really wants to rape, they're going to rape. There's probably some consensual sex going on, too.

Since most inmates will eventually be released at some point in time, it would be best if they weren't also releasing their newly-acquired stids back into society too. So this is an effort to reduce the chances of that happening.

I don't think abstinence-only education would work in Cell Block D.

Watch the documentary they are doing on the Maricopa County Jail on MSNBC, and then get back to me.

Although I don't think the prison rapist really gives a shit to wrap it up. Some might. The victim (not all prison rape victims deserve the punishment, many do like child rapist, rapist themselves, murders etc.) might just have to live with the fact he got rape and not with the HIV or other STDs that come along with it!

I doubt the majority of sexual contact in jail is rape. It for sure happens, but I think most of the time, it is not rape.
But I doubt they would rap it up if they were raping someone.

I see your point. Some or many of them may have a self-destructive personality and don't care about catching the clap.

I don't really care about how much the prisoner's crotch burns from their brand-new STD. But I do care about him or her bringing it out into society when they get released. Anything within reason to reduce those chances is good by me.

The conservative in me says that sex in prison is a liberal myth, and having condoms dispensed at the jail house will only encourage unholy homosexual intercourse from otherwise wholesome individuals who dare not partake in such activities. There must be more abstinence based classes at the prisons, and none of these immoral condom dispensers!!!

When one prisoner knows he's already the target of another who has more control, he often will agree to become the controlling person's "Bitch." The humiliation aside, at least he might not contract AIDS. This is a no-brainer to me.

This is a joke, right?

Are you saying rape is OK as long as the rapist uses a condom? An interesting aside, in most states it is impossible for an inmate to consent to sex, which makes it automatically rape.

If prison rape is inevitable, may as well relax and provide condoms...

There, I'm done channeling Bobby Knight...

Wow how American of you, So you advocate Rape as a punishment? SO much for no cruel and unusual Punishment.

If they are so bad you think they should be raped, I say KILL EM!

Satire. Yes.

If they can make Viagra...why can't they make the opposite?

Put it in the drinking water or something. Render them incapable. Take away their right to have sex completely. ...heck, that might even become incentive enough to stay out of prison LOL!

I sure hope the condom dispenser is placed near the A/C thermostat and cable TV remote? Wouldn't want the prisoners to be inconvenienced or uncomfortable.

I made my point as clear as I could. Reading comprehension--or lack of, in this case--is on you.
