New stand-alone fast food restaurants have been banned from setting up shop in South Los Angeles, due to rising health concerns by the city council.

How many fast food eateries does one area really need? The Los Angeles City Council thinks South Los Angeles and South East Los Angeles need new choices as these regions face an over-concentration of such restaurants.

"This is not an attempt to control people as to what they can put into their mouths. This is an attempt to diversify their food options," said councilmember Jan Perry.

Good way to kick start that sluggist economy in CA and put people to work. :cuckoo:

why do you consider this any different from any other zoning laws? if you can stop a porn place from building near a church etc and so forth.....

so why is this different from any other zoning?

Of course they have the right bones. But if people in S.L.A. like their Micky D's, the food nazis should leave them be. They think that Whole Foods and vegan places will be building there? Not likely.

o i dont think it has anything to do with food choices as much a zoning....and enforcing a code...they can build with other stores...forming a mini mall etc...just not a stand alone...i think its a move to encourage more businesses and a more diverse shopping base...and from the looks of it..they got plenty of bugers places

That's not what it says. "due to rising health concerns" "diversify food options". Hey - we've got enough fast food places in my area. I'd love to see more choices. But govt. can't force that. It's just wishful thinking.

One of my friends owns a very popular Mexican restaurant. She has "real" Mexicans working in the kitchen. And the place doesn't smell like crotch. Just sayin'.

But I'm wondering if a place like that would be allowed to be built. They have "diversified options" but I'm sure they are as fattening as a cheeseburger.

i guess it depends on if its fast food or a sit down type....

You don't encourage a more diverse shopping base by banning shit you don't like. Who decides what is 'plenty' is?

Seriously, if it becomes ok for local authorities to legislate choice.... how long before it become state? And then federal?

If it's health violations, shut down the violators.

Don't lock out an entire segment of new businesses. That's loony.

Over saturation of this shit hurts everyone even other prospective mom and pop shops.

I dont' like min malls. My evil zoning rule would be to ban all stand alone retail and office space(except gas stations for safety reasons) and mandate that they either build apartments or office space on top of retail, or apartments on top of office space.

Out in the burbs, retail is too far from living space to walk it. Mandating separation of spaces makes for sprawl

Cartmann of South Park went to Costa Rica and said the whole country smelled like "ass"!

Are you sure they're not from Guademala?

And as far as diversified options, this kid will take your arm off if you get too close!
