Ryan (R-WI) endorses Romney before Primary

I think primaries need to all be completed within a much smaller time frame. This drawn out process is damaging to the candidates and people have grown tired of it.

Ryan (R-WI) endorses Romney before Primary And I'm glad he did it that way, because this will give at least a degree of feedback to him from his own state, and to all of us.

Granted. So the States have some work to do, eh?

But then some have to come to realize that haste brings waste.

Some might say this process has innoculated our candidates from future pain. Then some say this process has given Obama tons of ammo for his campaign.

It's damaging to these candidates. The '08 Dem primaries went on months longer and weren't damaging to Obama or Clinton. In fact, they both raised more money than this cycle's Republicans, both had much better favorability ratings (both Obama and Hillary had net positive favorabilities, with Obama at more than +20; by comparison, all the Republicans this cycle are underwater); and the Dem primary electorate in '08 indicated much more satisfaction with and excitement about the primary choice before them.

So yeah, a long primary is damaging if all the candidates are terrible. If they're all strong, it's certainly a good thing.

Given the mood of the country in 2008, there was no way Obama or Clinton came off as unfavorable.

What will matter is the economy and the amount of time the GOP has to turn it's guns on Obama. His record is going to be a whole lot of fun to discuss.

And if Health Care tanks.....he is toast.

Romney is racking-up the endorsements from influential Repubs.

So what? Was there any doubt about who the "influential Repubs" were going to vote for in November.

By all rights, he should have had this wrapped up by now.

It doesn't bode well that the Romney nomination garners all the enthusiasm as going to your daughter's dance recital....

but...but... the social conservatives (Evangelical Christians) say they will line-up behind anyone to get the guy out of office who is doing what he campaigned on.

Ricky had his day in the sun.

It's time to focus on Obama and what a mess he has made.

If Romney is having a hard time with Santorum, he's going to get creamed by Obama...

Please explain this conclusion with no supporting argument.

Let's see now. How did Romney defeat Santorum?

By outspending him five to one.
By manipulating rules to keep him off the ballot in Virginia.
By manipulating the Delegate counts in states to minimize the damage of his losses.
And by keeping Newt in the race.

And keep in mind, we are talking about Santorum here. A guy who was polling at single digits back in December, a guy with no organization, no money, got run out of the Congress, and who, to be quite honest, is a religious zealot.

It also helped that the Media was happy to dig up all sorts of Oppossition research on Santorum, like some of the whackier things he's said to chruch groups over the years.

Now, when he goes up against Obama.

Obama will have more money.
Obama will have more enthusiastic support.
Obama will have a media ready to sing his praises.
Obama will have organization.

In short, Obama is not going to be a pushover like Santorum.

Again, as I've said.... you don't win voting against someone, you win voting for someone...

Just ask President Kerry.

Santorum was no pushover. The money issue is a clear example of that.

The far right has been looking for a champion for some time.

How do you claim that Romney had trouble with Santorum even though he outspent him, but then claim that Obama is going to have an advantage because he will have more money ?

Obama will have more enthusiastic support ? He's holding his cash because that is what he does not expect.

And once this primary is over, we will see just how much enthusiasm Romeny has (meaning we will really know....it isn't clear now).

Santorum wasn't strong because he was a great candidate. If you asked anyone in December, he was a joke and no one knew why he was running...

Until all the other "not Romneys" (Perry, Bachmann, Cain, Gingrich) self-destructed and he was the only one left.

There's no enthusiasm for Romney in that so much of the "far right" as you say simply want no part of him. Some of them will show up for him, others will stay home.

Nothing in Romney's history indicates he wows anyone. His entire history is of either being beaten by people who got written off as dead (Kennedy, McCain) or barely beating non-entities (O'Brien, Santorum).

He's well out of his weight class with Obama, who is, after all, a historic figure.

Of course, the GOP can't get out of nominating him, without pulling some real shenannigans... And they can't win with him..
