TEHRAN (Reuters) - Russia has begun delivering S-300 air defense systems to Iran which could help repel any Israeli and U.S. air strikes on its nuclear sites, the official IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.

"After few years of talks with Russia ... now the S-300 system is being delivered to Iran," IRNA quoted Email Kosari, deputy head of parliament's Foreign Affairs and National Security committee, as saying.

Kosari did not say when the deliveries began. Iran's Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the report. Russia's Foreign Ministry also declined comment, saying it may react on Monday.

The United States, its European allies and Israel say Iran is seeking to build nuclear arms under the cover of a civilian atomic energy program. Iran denies the charge.

Israel's insistence that Iran must not be allowed to develop an atomic bomb has fueled speculation that the Jewish state, widely assumed to have the Middle East's only nuclear arsenal, could mount its own pre-emptive strikes.

In October, Russia's Foreign Ministry denied media speculation that Moscow would sell the medium-range S-300 system, adding Moscow had no intention of selling weapons to "troubled regions."

But Russia's RIA news agency last week quoted "confidential sources" as saying that Russia was fulfilling a S-300 contract with Iran.

The most advanced version of the S-300 system can track targets and fire at aircraft 120 km (75 miles) away. It is known in the West as the SA-20.

Russian arms sales and nuclear cooperation with Iran have strained relations with Washington, which says Tehran could use them against their interests in the region and also against its neighbors.

Russia, building Iran's first nuclear power plant in the southern port city of Bushehr, says Tehran does not have the capability to make nuclear weapons.

Kosari said the S-300 system would be used "to reinforce Iran's capability to defend its borders."

"The delivery of this system is a display of good relations between Iran and Russia, which cannot be harmed by Israel," IRNA quoted Kosari as saying.

there is a solution but you'd have to be able to stomach being called an antisemite. There is a rich vein of modernized iranians that could be tapped if the eternal example of westernism weren't zionist enabled dominations of the pali population. Create a single state out of israel where ethnicity does not trump equality and you'll see waves of muslims drop their number one reason for hating israel and the west.

Hell, Even Egypt, a nation who has peaceful relations with israel had a lot to say about the latest sabre rattling by israel regarding the gaza strip.

This would seem to be a reasonable solution. The problem is that all things are not equal, namely birthrates. Just as Europe will eventually be dominated by Muslims, so would a single state in what is not Israel, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank.

The real threat of Islam to the Western way of life comes not from terrorism but from an increasing Muslim population as the rest of the world's population decreases. If Muslims, as a whole, were not so hell bent on "One World Under Islam", then we wouldn't have half the problems we do.

You can argue that only a small minority believes in "One World Under Islam". Unfortunately, that argument doesn't hold much water when so many Muslim countries prefer a theocracy to democracy. Even those few Muslim countries that are not ruled under some form of theocracy, have a substantial percentage of their population who would like to see that change.

The problem with those who try to side with Muslims is that most see them as people, just like us. They are not just like us though. They are very different in their beliefs and how those beliefs should manage and/or control everyday life, not just for themselves, but for everyone else also.

listen, I've heard that tired ass excuse before. Unless you can fathom me, as a white dude, initiating a white birth rate program before latinos take over in 40 years in order to preserve WHITE AUTHORITY, then you miss why the necessity of equality over ethnicity IS the midigating factor in the above solution.

They are not just like us though.

yet when aryans said that about jews it's NOT ok.

racism is a two way street, yo.

when so many Muslim countries prefer a theocracy to democracy.

eh? as if israel is a secular nation that doesn't respect and follow JEWISH dogma? The question becomes, are you at all willing to acknowledge the same stone in jewish hands that you point at when wielded by a muslim. why the hell should Iran play nice when you pretty much illustrate the core reason they shouldn't.

Welp, oil's down, Bush is still in office, Obama's in Hawaii.. sounds like the perfect time for Israel to attack Iran before they get the new AA missiles up and running.
