Russian shipment of attack helicopters for Syria halted off Scotland - World News

Clinton last week said Moscow had "dramatically" escalated the crisis in Syria by sending attack helicopters there. The State Department acknowledged later the helicopters she accused Moscow of sending were actually refurbished ones already owned by the Assad regime, but Russia was clearly annoyed, and the spat further fueled tensions between the two countries over Syria. It was not immediately clear whether the helicopters aboard the MV Alaed were the ones to which Clinton had been referring.

The British marine insurer, Standard Club, said it had withdrawn cover from the ship’s owner, Femco, a Russian cargo line.

Arms shipments from Russia to Syria are not prohibited by the United Nations because attempts to impose sanctions have been vetoed by allies of Damascus, including Moscow.

Maybe that's why Putin looked upset and uncomfortable.

:D

Another "success" of Obama foreign policy. Russia arming a rogue despotic regime.
Thanks. That's change you can count on!

We wont know what the consessions were that sent those ships back but dollar to 1,000 stale donuts Putin is sipping on some Kettle on the rocks as we speak...........although I do suppose that Obama may have approached Putin with a threat to walk on water!!

From what I read it appears this was a British tactic although the US used this same tactic months ago.

The Obama administration declined to claim credit for stopping the journey of the Russian-owned merchant vessel Alaed. But the insurance tactic was originated by the Treasury Department four months ago to prevent at least two shipments of Syrian oil from reaching the open market via Iran, a senior administration official said.

In the earlier episodes, the American insurer of a Liberian-flagged vessel and the European insurer of a Maltese-flagged ship both canceled coverage after being told they were violating U.S. and EU sanctions prohibiting any involvement in arms shipments or economic support for Syria, according to the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity about the sensitive issue.

Think those were reinforcements that were held up, nothing changes yet the government of Assad will be out killing people today. Iran sent men and weapons I heard yesterday, first time since Carter the Iranians run around showing no fear of Obama - not good

I doubt Putin gives a rats ass about anything Barry has to say.

Looks like the insurers pulled the plug. Money talks.

They sent the choppers back..

Hard as that is to believe.

By the way..the Iraqi invasion gave the Russians card blanche to do things like this.

You know..unilateral military action?

As in "The Bush Doctrine".
