The problem with pussy footing around with your enemies in war, is because when ever one has a war that is dragged out so long or to the point that it exposes you way to long in theater, then it always ends up being a very bad idea or mistake in result of when do this.

The long term propaganda begins to work against you if stay to long in theater, and it becomes a strategy of the enemy to not only fight back physically, but to fight back psychologically as well through propaganda.

If go to war, then go to war to win it, and to win it quickly. You don't want to expose your troops to condemnation over actions taken to long in a long drawn out war. You don't want your enemy being able to work the world opinion against you as you fight, and this is caused when you are exposed to long in a conflict or war that has no end in sight because of a weak failed strategy being operated upon.

You don't want to allow your enemy any relief until you meet your objective, and the goal is to meet it quickly. It's liken to a guy getting into a fight with another guy, and the one guy knowing that if he is to succeed, then he has to get the job done quickly, and precisely. He is to kick the other guy's ace in so that the other guy won't be able to say that he will regroup to fight again another day, and therefore completely surrendering to the best man idea that use to be how fights were won back in the day. You want the big guy to be your friend afterwards hopefully, but the only way to do that is to kick his ace good the first time so that there won't be a second time to have to do it again. If a nation hits back due to being hit first, then it needs to be a quick, precise and a hit that is a very hard response for the win. It's also good to make a statement to your enemy that he don't want to mess with you again.

We have been pussy footing around since our defeat in nam, and it has to end. Putin won't be pussy footing around with what they are dealing with probably, so we might end up watching and learning how it is done when they respond to their ambassador being shot like that.
