Millionaires MIA as N.Y. mulls special tax for them

At a time when some Democrats want to increase taxes on the rich, the number of millionaires in New York is projected to drop by about 10% this year, the Daily News has learned.

The state had 48,984 people making at least $1 million in 2008, figures from by Gov. Paterson's budget office show.

This year's total is projected to drop to 44,165, a decrease of 4,819, or 9.84%, the figures show.

As a result, the total adjusted gross income earned by those millionaires is expected to fall to $151.8 billion.

That's a $21.8 billion, or 12.57% decline from the $173.6 billion made last year, before the economic crisis was fully felt. That would create a $1.5 billion dip in state tax revenues, the numbers show.

Gotta love "punish the rich" economics.
