Soptic is a union guy with an ax to grind who has been seen in at least one other ad for Obama and on a conference call with Stephanie Cutter who denied knowing his "story". His wife HAD her own insurance for a year or more after the plant closed in 2001. Romney had already left Bain in 1999. After having turned down an earlier buy out offer from Bain, Soptic was making 42k per year with what he was making as a janitor and with his pension. So, while that's not a whole lot of money, with some budgeting, he might have provided healthcare coverage to his family in the FIVE YEARS between the plant closing and his wife's death in 2006.

This entire ad was meant to make it look like Mitt Romney was responsible for that woman's death... and he wasn't. Not by any stretch of the imagination. People should be disgusted that Obama's camp would stoop this low.. but then again, that would require integrity and decency.

According to sworn documents he filed with the SEC he was. lying on those documents is a felony BTW and if he was not at Bain at the time then he is a felon. You will notice that even GFox news now admits this claim is buillshit and that romney was at Bain after he claimed he left, and he was managing director at bain when this man was laid off when the plant closed due to romney's decision. Romney is allowed to lie to the public because they are not sworn statements to the government, but you will notice he has never told the SEC those documents were forged or incorrect. 2- His wife sadly got cancer after Romney left Bain to run the Olympics.

She got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She had cancer long before her diagnosis, but because she had no health insurance she did not go to the doctor. Though she may have still met the same fate, there is a high degree of likelihood that had the cancer been diagnosed earlier she would have had possible treatments. Even Romney admits that had she been in MA where he initiated an insurance mandate and help for the poor to get insurance like Obamacare she would probably be alive today. This is why his people said she would have had health care if she lived in MA.

This shows that even Romney and his team think the insurance mandate is a good thing.

3- She was working at the time and had health insurance.

Bain is a business and it makes lots of money. There is a reason why there are all sorts of protection laws on the books in the US. The less money and benefits you give to people, the more profit you can get. Why do you think outsourcing is so good for the bottom line?
