Already, three U.S. lawmakers on Wednesday urged the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission to look into whether News Corp broke a U.S. law banning payment of bribes to foreign officials.

And some media pundits, including CourtTV founder Steve Brill, have raised questions over whether News Corp's U.S. broadcast license could be revoked, given that federal communications law requires owners of TV stations to be "of good character."

News Corp owns the Fox television stations and cable network Fox News.

Analysts say it's too early to tell if there will be serious damage to Murdoch's U.S. business, but these calls raise the specter that his smeared reputation in Britain could have ramifications stateside.

"It wouldn't surprise me at all if others call for hearings and investigations, and perhaps they may even be held. There's going to be a lot of activity around this issue," said Jeffrey Silva, analyst with Medley Global Advisors.

If it comes out that Murdoch has been secretly knowledgeable of all the criminality in all of his media companies in the UK then he's TOAST Stateside based on that alone.

I hope you're right. I'd be willing to bet there are a lot of people who would like to see them get their comeuppance. They've hurt a lot of people over the years. There must be plenty waiting in the wings, hoping to finally see them fall.

Most of what you are saying isn't 'fact'. Since the UK inquiries are still in their very early stages, there is no way to know what is 'fact' and what is speculation. You're repeating mainly speculation, facts are not speculation and speculation is not fact.

If there is a persistent pattern of criminal behavior within Murdocks conglomerate media outlets then this story is VERY important.

If this is an isolated case, then it really isn't.

Its looking like the Murdock empire is in trouble in the UK, though.

And since bribery of public officials in foreign nation is also a US crime, Murdock's empire might be in trouble here, too.
