Rothstein Victims Head To Court, Want Money Back

Taken for a ride by disbarred attorney Scott Rothstein and his billion dollar Ponzi scheme, his victims have gone to court in an effort to get at least some of their money back.
Before his arrest for operating a $1.4 billion dollar Ponzi scheme, Rothstein promised to "do the right thing." But paying back the people he swindled is proving easier said than done. Though investigators have seized his bank accounts, mansions, yachts and sports memorabilia, Federal prosecutors estimate that will bring in only $50 to $60 million dollars. He owes 320 victims $360 million dollars.
On Monday a Federal Judge said the people who were Rothstein's clients -- the ones who thought they were getting legal services -- should be paid back first. Of the 38 non-investors seeking damages only 10 had valid claims and they would be paid first. These non-investors were clients of the law firm where Rothstein was a partner and had asked that he represent them.
