with paying for insurance for routine check-ups when visiting the doctor. Insurance is supposed to hedge your losses against catastrophic losses. Insurance is not supposed to be used for routine check-ups.

There is something fundamentally wrong with this picture.

Thank FDR and the New Dealists.

Health insurance as an employee benefit is an "innovation" caused by wage controls during the FDR era.

But routine check-ups help prevent possible catastrophe! Should one wait until leg or arm falls off or until cancer (that could be prevented if detected early in stage) attack entire body before seeing doctor? I prefer prevention.

I prefer prevention also. However, preventive action should not cost an arm and leg, but they do. In fact, many people will not take preventive action simply because they do not have insurance.

There is something fundamentally wrong with this picture.
