Packerland!
Blaming opposition to Obama's policies and actions on race doesn't seem quite as ubiquitous as it once did now that the media has been burned by Obama's justice department and now that the ObamaCare boondoggle has been so undeniably incompetent. But it's still wide-ranging and I appreciate this essay from start to finish, including the reminder about how Harry Reid using the race card as recently as this summer.

Sure, nothing racist about calling Obama a rat/squirrel, it is strictly an intelligent, well thought out comment on policy!

RUSH: I am not holding Obama up as an object of abuse.

RUSH: I call Obama a squirrel. What's a squirrel? Nothing but a rat with better PR.

RUSH: What sharply personal attacks? All they are is people telling the truth about the little squirrel. What personal attacks? "Well, see, Rush, there you go, that's a personal attack right there." No, no, no, no. Not a personal attack

No, Ed, there is nothing racist about calling Obama a rat/squirrel.

Just because something is insulting, that doesn't make it racist.

Thanks for illustrating the problem though.

I call him an arrogant incompentent buffoon. I must be a racist.

On the bright side they have taken away the racist tool. Matthews can scream, Rev Al can scream, no one cares anymore.

They've beaten the dead horse into eternity. When Oprah was whining about racism in America I had sprite shooting out my nose.

If she doesn't understand that white women watched her show and made her a quizzillionaire and I was one of them at the time. Well why don't you give us back all our money and support Oprah if we watched you because we were racist.

Give it all back Oprah.

I still care ... but not in the way I used to. They've definitely perverted the accusation.

It's racist to point out this goat-roping POS found an apology for the trail of tears in an 09 defense appropriations bill and kept so silent about it that members of his own party didn't know he had apologized for the crimes against humanity committed by his party. That NAZI SOB should be killed slowly on national TV over a period of say a month.

But you crybabies say you are being called racists for opposing Obama's POLICIES! You claim there is nothing racist about calling Obama a rat/squirrel, but insulting him personally has nothing to do with POLICY either!!! Just like calling him "Little Black Man-child" rather than "boy" has nothing to do with POLICY!

Obviously you are called racists for your insults, not for opposing his POLICIES. You may not consider your insults racist, but they have nothing to do with POLICY and your playing the perpetual VICTIM for opposing POLICY.

Thanks for illustrating the dishonesty though.

Even the most civil among us has been called racist for opposing Obamacare. I was very civil before 2009.

We are called racist for opposing his policies.

We are in addition called racist for insulting him.

We are called racist for both and neither is grounds to call us racist.

I don't call Obama a "Little Black Man-child", and I am still called a racist.

I was impressed with him in 2004. It was some time before I saw past the rhetoric and learned the despicable things about him. My learning negative things about him didn't make me racist, but me being called racist definitely made me less civil and more prone to attack. However, I didn't start insulting him until after he started insulting me.

Sure he did!

How do you know he wasn't just opposing your politics?

He could have chosen a less offensive way in which to oppose my politics.

If people hadn't been so quick to call us racist, there wouldn't have been nearly as much anger across the country, and Obama could have been a better leader. Blaming opposition on racism instead of on natural political tensions may have played a part in him not reaching out and playing the usual political games needed to grease the wheels in Washington.

People did Obama a great disservice by playing up the racist meme. Obama didn't need them to run that kind of interference for him. It was almost as if they didn't think Obama could look out for himself. In a way Obama's supporters were as insulting to him as he was to us when he implied that the reason we objected to Obamacare was just that we didn't understand it.

Obama claimed to support single-payer healthcare, a socialistic policy. But rightwingers were called racist for using the term "socialist". That was called a racial "code word", a "dog whistle".

Obama said he never said he supported single-payer healthcare, which was a lie on his part, and we were called racist for calling him out for that and other falsehoods.

As a senator Obama said Alito was a well-qualified to be a Supreme Court justice and said it would be wrong to filibuster him, and then someone whispered in his ear that he could hurt his future political hopes if he didn't join in on the filibuster attempt his fellow Democrat senators planned to mount, and so he joined in. Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling. But Republicans making similar moves later were accused of doing so because Obama is black.

Obama's condescension to people he described as clinging bitterly to guns and religion created an army of people who proudly identify as bitter clingers opposing him. That was sparked by his words. Not his color.

Obama has been surprisingly graceless for someone whose vault to prominence was due to his golden tongue.

I do hate all Democrats and you racist pigs earned it with the trail of tears and your Andrew Jackson birthday parties. Why not celebrate someone less vile like Pol Pot or Hitler?
