Analysis: For Romney, some troubling signs among older voters | Reuters

Even before his running mate was booed by a lobbying group for older Americans on Friday, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was losing support among such voters, whose backing is crucial to his hopes of winning the November 6 election.

New polling by Reuters/Ipsos indicates that during the past two weeks - since just after the Democratic National Convention - support for Romney among Americans age 60 and older has crumbled, from a 20-point lead over Democratic President Barack Obama to less than 4 points.

Romney's double-digit advantages among older voters on the issues of healthcare and Medicare - the nation's health insurance program for those over 65 and the disabled - also have evaporated, and Obama has begun to build an advantage in both areas.

heh, would would have ever predicted that attacking Social Security and Medicare would cost Mitten the old folk's votes?

Since the GObP/pupot plan for seniors is basically an ice floe, what senior would vote R? Indeed, if one has parents, children, a mother, a sister, wife, daughter etc etc, a vote for Mitt is a vote against them.

OTOH, if you're one of the 1%, then you should definitely vote for Mitt the Twit.

His statement about the 47% who pay no taxes shows just WHO Mitt cares about. He has dissed half the country in one full swoop. It just goes to show that he will do anything and say anything to gain the support of the Far Right. Unfortunately for him, his statements to gain their support have also lost him the independent voter...Chose your Poison Mitt...

It's funny that conservatives think the "Fuck you and die" meme is a winning strategy. I hope they keep using it.

It's funny how Republicans and Democrats think "we'll buy your vote with welfare!!" is affordable when we keep getting downgraded and the deficit will hit 20 Trillion soon enough. When it all falls apart history will look at the Presidents that compounded the problem and in fact will be remembered as some of the most destructive people to the general welfare of the American people.

Noted even in this thread, the federal government is bailing out the various investment communities with Reagan-Trajectory Bogus Bucks in record numbers. Romney likely understands this, presuming a business background!

So Obama-Biden-Pelosi-Reid spent vast amounts of time and political capital going after the runaway profiteers in the insurance and medical industries--but no time or political capital explaining what they were doing! The Republicans were able to play on that in the midterms. There was no other rational choice for the Democrats going into the Stimulus: But to start to control runaway medical costs inflation. Giant Spending programs can in fact inflate prices. The difference this time was housing--way too price deflated. The Democrats offered no such explanation, however. . .from our Ivy League(?). More and More likely that will become a more normative expectation at both political parties.

So with explanations suddenly White House forthcoming, now even Ryan's rejected claim of the Democrats stealing from Medicare--to put the grandchildren on the health plan--is not resonating(?). AARP would not likely applaud grand theft larceny--the Ryan Claim, and the RNC claim.

The Democrats are finally starting to explain just exactly what it was they actually did!

In Contrast, The Two Stupid Guys at RNC look Way Too Stupid, even to Old Sucks!

"Crow, James Crow: Shaken, Not Stirred!"
(Soon AARP may come to Lands of Many Nations--Where census records that mostly no one lives long enough to even collect Social Security! National Health Care options may expand treatment, and create new beneficiaries, some day soon!)

It's funny that conservatives think the "Fuck you and die" meme is a winning strategy. I hope they keep using it.

Democrats use that strategy as well, usually for Social Issues.

I tried searching Kos for some of the articles I remember, but I distinctly remember contributors going with the "people we disagree with are getting older and dying, so sooner or later we win" meme.

Romney revels just how much the GOP supports the wealthy over everyone else, people like Romney spend their whole lives fighting to keep wages low, then laughs at the working class because they're poor.
