PARK CITY, Utah — It was the kind of image Mitt Romney has sought to blunt during his campaign for president: a prodigious display of wealth.

At a private retreat this weekend, major Romney campaign donors quaffed 1927 Port they'd brought in for the occasion, mingled in the lobby of a posh resort called the Chateaux at Silver Lake and watched an aerial display of Olympic ski jumpers.

Billed as a "senior leadership retreat," the three-day gathering in Deer Valley was a reward for the wealthy GOP donors who have fueled Romney's fundraising, giving at least $25,000 each or raising at least $100,000 by June 18. Many of the more than 700 who attended had donated much more.

The campaign is counting on these supporters to raise $500 million of its $800 million fundraising goal, according to one top fundraiser. The retreat is part of a meticulous effort by the campaign to keep its biggest supporters personally invested in the candidate as he hurtles toward November.

"They're our major investors," a senior Romney adviser said, declining to speak openly because of the campaign's desire for secrecy.

The retreat was closed to the media, in keeping with Romney's secrecy about who is raising money for his campaign. He has declined to release the names of bundlers, those who collect funds from others on behalf of the campaign. Romney was not seen in public except when he waved at reporters from his motorcade.

It was a busy weekend for top conservative donors. In addition to Romney's retreat, the billionaire Koch brothers were hosting a private gathering in Carlsbad for wealthy political givers. And the Republican Jewish Coalition — whose board includes casino magnate Sheldon Adelson and other top GOP money men — is having its summer bash at a Beverly Hills hotel Sunday.

And?

When Obama "hobnobs' with millionaires and billionaires in the homes of Clooney and other actors like Sarah Jessica Parker, while on the taxpayer dime, is it newsworthy to you?

Do you think they drank Kool-Aid, BoonsFarm strawberry wine and ate roman soup?

Dammit Cafe, It was fun watching Chris play with himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long til Chris posts he dosent talk about rich people negatively? I love have liberals do this

Chris is just pissed that Romney is out raising his boy by about two to one. If the foo was on the other shit, he'd be pointing at how bad a job of fund raising Republicans are doing.

Hey Chris! :finger3:

If it is secret, then how do you know about it? And it doesn't sound like the writer is in the loop with Romney's campaign, so this is just the start of an excuse when Obama loses. I think some are trying to make this about money the way they did with the Wisconsin election.

Meanwhile, Obama continues to hobnob with the wealthy and the libs bragged months ago about how he'd have around a billion dollars at his disposal for the election campaign. But, that was okay and something to rub in our noses. When Romney does well, you whine and cry.

Strange how that works, eh? What of the fact that Obama outspent McCain ironically 7 to 1 in some areas? The same number they accused Walker of outspending his opponent in Wisconsin.

I tried to rep your post above but I am out of rep for the next 24 hours, so I owe you!!

As George Clooney Throws Obama A $40,000-A-Plate Party, Meet The Billionaires Opening Their Wallets
On Thursday night, movie megastar George Clooney will host President Obama at his enormous estate in the hills of Studio City, Calif. at a $40,000-a-plate re-election fundraiser. Team Obama is tight-lipped on the guest list for the private 150-person dinner, although DreamWorks mogul and prolific Democratic donor Jeffrey Katzenberg is co-hosting the affair.

The event marks what the New York Times referred to as a return to Hollywood for the President in a Wednesday story. His 2008 election was buoyed by the support of wealthy celebrities. But Obama isn’t just courting the stars on his L.A. trip. The really big checks come from the super-rich behind the camera. As the Times story noted, Obama recently invited Haim Saban to the Oval Office to ask for his backing. Saban isn’t a household name like Clooney, but he can afford to shell out more cash to help re-elect the President: he’s worth $2.9 billion.

The Israeli-born entertainment tycoon made his money with the Power Rangers brand, but more recently bought out Spanish-language broadcaster Univision in a $13.7 billion deal. He and his wife Cheryl ...\have, between them, given over $10 million to political causes in the last decade. The vast majority have gone to left-leaning candidates and committees. They’ve both donated the maximum $5,000 per person allowance to Obama’s campaign this cycle, and Cheryl pitched in the maximum $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee in January.

Saban’s fellow Hollywood billionaires have also been opening their wallets to re-elect Obama. Director Steven Spielberg donated $100,000 to Priorities USA Action, a left-leaning super PAC backing the President’s re-election bid.

It's no secret that politicians running for the Presidency rely on campaign dollars from the wealthy. I must say though, I have never seen an incumbent President asking for $$$ from weddings, funerals and birthdays before.

Obama's begging for cash from peoples wedding parties goes down in history as a first. positively historic.

To the OP. Chris how ignorant (in the true sense of the word) are you of the wealth of the Democrats? I don't believe you are. I think you know quite well that there are many many 1% on your side of the aisle.

So as you try to cast aspersions on Romney for raising campaign dollars from the wealthy, you really should look in the mirror and say to yourself..."holy shit I'm a freaking hypocrite".

Obama taps overseas donors

The president's overseas power centers include London, where high powered execs like Warner Bros. Josh Berger and Anthony Gardner of Palamon Capital Partners have promised to deliver as much as $500,000 each to the campaign, and Shanghai, where businessman and Technology for Obama co-chair Robert Roche has committed to bringing in more than $500,000.

It's all legal - the donors are American citizens who pay U.S. taxes - and the net income to the campaigns is paltry compared to the hundreds of millions of dollars raised stateside. But while presidential campaigns have long taken in campaign donations from expats and people living in U.S. territories, Obama's campaign is focusing on it more than ever before.

In 2008, Obama reported having seven bundlers outside the 50 states committed to raising as much as $2.3 million, with the dough rolling in at events like a George Clooney-headlined fundraiser in Geneva. Meanwhile, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took in $610,000. And in 2004, presidential campaigns took in just under $910,000 total from Americans living abroad.

I see that, yet again, you provide other people's words and not your own. How very sad... you clearly have no ability to think for yourself.

Did you object to Obama doing the same thing?

When did Obama have top secret meetings with the Koch's?

Secret meetings with the wealthy.... Obama is as 'guilty' as Romney. Just pointing out facts. Having a hissy fit when the other guy while ignoring it when your own guy does it... hypocrisy. If it's wrong, it's wrong. If it's not, it isn't. It can't be ok for one and not the other. See how that works? Probably not. But logic is not a skill you value.

"Doing the same thing" would be stating that Obama also was at lavish retreats with the Koch's. He has never done such a thing.

Though it's typical to see the ignorance given whom the poster is, that puts their stupidity on clear display in virtually every post :cuckoo:

Obama has had several closed door meetings with high profile donors as well as heads of the major unions who have visited him multiple times in the White House behind closed doors (unions are the largest political donors in the country). He also received 75% of Wall Street donations in his 2008 campaign, so there is your fascism.

Your avatar is apparently a picture of yourself because you're just another programmed Obamabot with your head shoved straight up your ass. You buy into his class warfare bullshit with seething jealousy while he is being funded by the wealthy elite right in front of your face.

Go back to your sandbox and play with the other children. You're too stupid to talk grown up stuff.
