Romney's Great Paying Jobs

I've been through this already with JoeyBoy. He is too dense to understand what a venture capital company does. I am not in the habit of dumbing down to his level.

Oh, I understand what it does perfectly well...

I just realize it's a bad thing for the country. I'm not sure why you think it's a good thing.

You do realize that thinking it's a 'bad thing for the country' is not a fact - it's an opinion. One that you are welcome to hold - no matter how detached it is from reality. Which is why I cannot engage with you... you are not rational.

This country became great because of its manufacturing ability and its middle class. It saved the world, put men on the moon, and built the "shining city on the hill", as Ronald Reagan used to say.

Romney wants to shutter they city and sell off the assets.

That you consider this Rational is kind of scary.

The one thing people need to realize in this new world of business is corporations don't care any longer for people, for their employees, communities, or even the nation, they care about the bottom line. In some ways it has always been that way, but after WWII and the sense of community that the war gave to the nation, we had a long period of working together for everyone. Now we exist in another world in which greed is admired by many as great sport, and money management and manipulation is the cats meow. Pew research recent survey showed Americans are starting to get it, maybe, just maybe, we will cycle back to a more rational and humane business climate. The ideologues in the scotus made that more difficult as propaganda now controls the minds of many.

Special report: Romney's steel skeleton in the Bain closet | Reuters

"Less than a decade later, the mill was padlocked and some 750 people lost their jobs. Workers were denied the severance pay and health insurance they'd been promised, and their pension benefits were cut by as much as $400 a month.

What's more, a federal government insurance agency had to pony up $44 million to bail out the company's underfunded pension plan. Nevertheless, Bain profited on the deal, receiving $12 million on its $8 million initial investment and at least $4.5 million in consulting fees."

I refuse to settle for a world and country where profit is more important than people

If you can provide actual evidence that Romney wants to 'shutter the (sp) city and sell off the assets', I'm happy to consider it. But the evidence must be legitmate... ie not some left wing hack shit.

I'll wait.

This country became great not because of its 'manufacturing' but because of its work ethic. Americans grafted, pure and simple. We dared to dream, and we believed that if we could dream it, we could do it. We didn't talk about 'class' because we didn't see 'class', we saw character and courage. All the things that made America great are things that we are told are 'wrong' now. We believed we were exceptional - and because we believed it - we were. Now, exceptional is a dirty word.... and that is decade after decade of liberal pandering and nannying.

I've been posting stuff on Bain and Romney's dodgy deals for months now, and your pat response is " You just hate him because he's a Mooooooooooooorman!"

If you really think putting Americans out of good paying jobs and replacing them with crappy service jobs with no benefits so a few rich douchebags is a good thing, I don't know what I can say to you. It seems to me you lack a heart.

If "exceptional" has lost it's original meaning, it's because of the abuse of the language.

If Americans had a work ethic, it was because a work ethic paid off when there were good wages and oppurtunities. I've been working since I was 16. Worked my way through college, served in the armed forces, worked my way through jobs while the guys with the money made horrible decisions. I don't believe for a moment I will ever be able to retire like my grandfather did.

We are at the place we are at because of the greed of the few nullifying the labor of the many. I won't pretend that's all of it, there are a lot of factors at play, and there's a lot of blame to go around to both parties. But Romney and people like him are a major part of the problem, and that doesn't need to be rewarded or lionized.

I'm quite capable - and have already - responded for myself. Please do not speak for me. I believe - and have evidence to support - my beliefs. Just as you believe whatever bullshit you fantasize about.

As much as you believe the bullshit that you post.

You really lack any insight, and you're nasty almost all of the time. I suppose both characteristics are common in uptight extremists and twice fold in narcissistic personalities. But I digress. My point is your bullshit is bullshit because it is all entirely partisan. There are two sides - at the very least - to the issues commonly 'debated' on this forum. Yet you don't debate, you opine and insult.

You're right, all profits that any american company makes should be given directly to Obama and the democrats so they can distribute it where they see fit......

I insult because I have a remarkably low tolerance for stupidity, and bullshit. It is a response to the poster reflecting the intellectual level that they provide. You post nonsense, I post insults.

Those posters that I respect, I do not insult. Granted, there are not many - but that's a reflection of others, not of me. It's not my fault that people post nonsense. It's theirs.

Admittedly, I rarely engage in debate here... mainly because it's almost impossible, given the level of bullshit that gets posted here.

The argument for the Romney Supporters is that it's perfectly okay that Romney destroyed thousands of good paying union jobs with benefits because, hey, Staples was one of his investments. And Staples employs 90,000 people today.

Right.

Okay.

What does Staples Pay?

PayScale - Staples, Inc. Employer Wages, Hourly Wage Rate

Computer Repair Technician - $7.66-12.85

Retail Sales Associate - $7.39- $11.15

Copy Center Specialist - $7.50- $12.82

Sales Asscoiate - $7.37 - $9.89

Seriously? This is the argument he's going to make. It's okay I eliminated good paying jobs at GS Steel or AmPad because I created these wonderful oppurtunities at Staples with crappy wages and no benefits.

HMMMMM Who to trust?

Staples Salary

AmPad and GS Steel were failing companies. AmPad mostly because they didn't grasp the fact that the typewriter's day had come and gone. Do democrats REALLY believe that Romney took control of successful companies and closed them for the sole reason of putting people out of work? Is that a tenet of their belief system. It would tell us a great deal about how crazy they really are.

How many executives do you think Staples actually employes.

Most of the 90,000 employees fall into the ranges I listed...

Not really. So much for "intellectual honesty". Do you really think that Staples is employing 90,000 executives at the 125K range? Or 90.000 wage slaves at the $8.00/hr range?

due to my states minimum wage I already knew the info was bogus as it applies here.

Where does it apply?

Again, your words speak for yourself... and indicate why the GOP will lose.

Because, honestly, no one wants a country run by heartless people.

Not to mention all the mom and pop stores he put out of business.

That is a good point.

My first job out of the Army was working for a company that distributed Pet supplies to the "Mom and Pop" pet stores that were still pretty common in the 1980's.

Well, along came the PetCo's and the PetSmarts, which could buy in bulk, and those places went out of business, and eventually we did. We were actually one of the last survivors amongst the distributors, six or seven smaller ones sank before we did.

The GOP often tauts itself as the friend to small business, but really, small business suffers as much as labor from their policies.

The big winner is the consumer who gets a wider choice at lower prices. Or should people be wiling to pay more for less just so you can keep your job?

This is really why I have no respect for liberals. Nonsense like this. Your argument is, that the ordinary joe sixpack consumer should be happy to pay more for less. How GREEDY of them to shop for a bargain.

I had a business in direct competition with a Petco two blocks away. My appointment book was filled a month in advance. If anything, Petco INCREASED my business. I had to change a few things to stop competing where I could not compete and put efforts into a more successful plan.
