Robotic surgeon finds, removes shrapnel alone

A robotic surgeon at Duke University has successfully found and guided a needle to a sliver of steel shrapnel, completely without human help. The technology could reduce the cost and time necessary to complete a biopsy and other surgical operations.
"Eventually you could have a ten-dollar biopsy done inside in a supermarket," said Steve Smith, a doctor at Duke University and co-author of a paper describing the work in the journal IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control.
"Today that same biopsy would cost about $1,000," said Smith.

Eventually there's going to be damned little that any human can do that some program or some well programed robot can't do better than humans can do.

I am already of the opinion that we could probably devise a computer program that could diagnose most human illnesses better than most MDs could.

We'd best start thinking about how we're going to model our economic systems to deal with the fact that technology is making more and more of us redundant.

Of course we won't until this problem is so drop dead obvious that even members of Congress can see it.
