What was he to you? A liberal, a conservative, something in between, something greater? What do you believe he would have accomplished if he had escaped assasination and gone on to face Richard Nixon in '68? As both liberals and conservatives claim parts of his legacy, what part would you claim?

I think he would have beat Nixon. I'm thinking the outcome of the war in Vietnam would probably have happened sooner (not sure if this is a great thing or not). Calculated, constantly appraised programs to fight poverty and hopelessness in America would have been launched. Programs that didn't cut it as far as results would have been tossed by the wayside and new ones tried out. America would have spoken out against South Africa's apartheid much, much sooner. American politics would be vastly different today than what they are now because of RFK's blend of liberal, moderate and conservative beliefs into a coherent package.
