River relics in central US surface as drought drops water levels

How will "desalination" refill the "Mississippi" River to cover the "relics" again and make it "passable" for "barge" traffic?

What is your "plan" to get the "massive" amount of ocean "water" needed to the "Midwest"?

We get "massive amounts" of oil from place to place. Why not massive amounts of water? We use things called "pipelines".

Besides, we can build railroads. The important thing is to get water to the "bread basket" of America. Without food, we starve. Did that have to be explained?

Starve?

40% corn crops going to ethanol. 20% of that is exported.

Exporting millions of metric tons each year of ag grains and products, while WE pay record prices for groceries.

Ag has taken us for a ride for decades.

No, in the recorded history of the time we have observed the river, we have not had a time when one year had all time flood records, and the next year had all time low water records.

You are basing Earths life cycle on how long humans have been recording that shit? Really? LOL

My cousin bopped Endres's wife LOL.

Why dig up a 5 year old news item? :eusa_eh:

Ethanol and biodiesel production uses up massive amounts of water.

You just hate conservatives. That's ok. I hate your kind. :D

That's called "tiny thinking". No imagination.

Our country has oceans of water on both sides. Scientists have looked at everything from desalination to moving icebergs.

Desalination: Drink a cup of seawater? - US Geological Survey

Recently, considerable attention has been given to the use of renewable energy as sources for desalination, especially in remote areas and islands, because of the high costs of fossil fuels, difficulties in obtaining it, attempts to conserve fossil fuels, interest in reducing air pollution, and the lack of electrical power in remote areas.

Simulation shows it

Take wind energy or solar energy. Instead of using them for "houses", imagine using them for removing salt from ocean water on a large scale.

There is a lot science and technology can do. Things that are already being used. They will require infrastructure investment and investment in science, education and technology and will require government working with business and universities.

But this will never happen with Republicans who think government should be shrunk so small you can drown it in a bathtub and education is for snobs and science is a "faith".

Look at Rick Perry, praying for rain in a stadium hoping with more voices, God will "take notice". Give me a break. That's how Republicans approach problems.

You can't build "pipelines" from the "oceans" to the Mississippi "River" for two "reasons".

The first "reason" is the EPA won't "let" you. They have to "protect" all manner of habitats for "little" creatures that no one ever "sees".

The second "reason" is that there are major "obstacles" between the oceans "and" the headwaters of the "Mississippi". They are called "mountains". How are you going to "pump" "desalinated" water over those?

But I have a "solution" to your "plan". We could close I-290 and I-88 and build a "pipeline" on top of them "from" Chicago to "Davenport" to refill the "Mississippi". It would drain "your" drinking water, but it "sucks" to be you, I "guess".

Holy shit! haha That is owning someone lol

Republicans say "let it die". No spending on infrastructure. We do nothing. That will "save money".

And democrats say spend, spend, spend like money grows on trees, we can always print more until it isn't worth piss in the wind and our country goes bankrupt.

STFU moron.

Republicans spend. It just depends on the decade. When that party was filled with "liberals", they spent money on building NASA and the interstate highway system.

Now a days, after all the liberals left and the conservatives joined, they spend money on wars and tax cuts for billionaires.

And you call me a "moron"? No wonder your kind wants normal people to "STFU".
You libroids and your radical socialist president have redefined the term GOVERNMENT SPENDING. You have added SIX TRILLION to the debt in just four years, and your little boi king has proposed spending that even boggled some of you democrats and you didn't support it. Now we have democrats wanting to tax and spend MORE and republicans wanting NO new taxes and REAL cuts in spending. Your lies and distortions are almost painful to read. You're either the biggest bald faced liar this side of Mars, or you're so incredibly fucking stupid you ought to be committed.

NORMAL, you have no damn clue what that word even means idiot.

If you start draining the Great Lakes, it would introduce salt water and the water would be undrinkable in no time. Try to figure out why.

Yea, pipelines bad. EPA won't let us build any. If you guys are going to "make fun", you should at least know what you are talking about. The other possibility is you may not be smart enough to feel foolish.

And before you pull out your Global Warming hoax card, you'll notice in the link that the carvings were done when there was no river flowing over the rocks at that time... Again...The river wasn't there when the carvings were made. No SUV's and Coal powered plants to blame... Only time.

Shut up you racist fuck. It was you Republicans that fucked over the country during the Bush years and left Obama the mess he has had to deal with while you racist, ignorant fucks tried stopping him at every turn from fixing your mess. It was Republicans "spending" that ran up the debt and none of your ignorant schemes panned out. Not one. Iraqi oil, Solyndra, putting savings in the stock market, your Wall Street derivative scheme. Every single Republican scheme has been a disaster. What can you expect from such racist and ignorant people?

See? I can rant too. Only my rant is "true".

Notice how very "few" "pipelines" go through the "Appalachian" and "Rocky" mountains, and how "short" those "pipelines" are. Try to figure out "why".

And why should we "worry" about salt "water" in the Great "Lakes"? The "important thing" is to get water to the "bread basket" of America. You can drink the "brackish" water we have been "enjoying" now that the "river" levels are "down".

Did you notice the Gulf is connected to the ocean? There are no mountains there.

Did you know the Great Lakes are connected to the Atlantic Ocean? If you take out the water, they will fill back up. Where do you think that water will come from? Think "Connected to the Ocean", then think "Ocean is salty". Come on dammit. You know better. You are arguing just to argue. You stopped making sense several posts ago.

So the "people" along the "Mississippi" should drink "crappy" water while "you" hog the good stuff? "Screw" that. The "important thing" is to get water to the "bread basket" of America. Share the "pain" of bad drinking water, you "selfish" "bastard".

I strongly suspect you are being "generous" in your timing estimation.

You're right. I am.

Offer a few suggestions already being looked at by the scientific community, and you always get some right winger screaming "That's INSANE". It never fails.

As we move solidly into the consequences phase of the warming we have created, we need to think out of the box on several issues. And water for agriculture is just one of them. For we have several things happening at the same time on this issue. We have been mining water from our aquifers for a long time now, just ignoring the fact that every decade we have to go deeper to get water. This drawdown is about to end, as many of the aquifers are nearly empty. We have never tried to address the recharge end of these aquifers. Time to do that.

Our great central river system has seen two extremes in the space of two years. In one, we almost lost most of the dams on the Missouri and Mississippi, as some of the upper dams were starting to erode their spillways. They are earth fill dams, so if the concrete spillway went, that would have been the end of that dam, and all those downstream. Now we are seeing a drought intense enough that we may lose the use of the Mississippi for shipping. And we are not prepared to handle the traffic with alternative methods.

Yet, as we see these problems coming on, and start considering ways to address them, there is one political faction that tries to shoot down the idea of doing anything at all. And, politically, does all it can to prevent even the consideration of ameliorating the affects of climate change. Kind of like shooting the firemen as they arrive at the fire.

USS Inaugural (AM-242) was an Admirable-class fleet minesweeper. The Admirable class was the largest and one of the most successful classes of U.S. minesweepers ordered during World War II. Inaugural was launched on 1 October 1944, and was commissioned on 30 December, with Lieutenant John H. Pace USNR in command.
The ship was decommissioned in 1946 and set up as a museum ship in St. Louis, Missouri in 1968. In the flood of 1993, Inaugural was ripped from her mooring and grounded a mile downstream. As of March 2011, the hulk was still sitting on the Missouri side of the river.[1]

Yeah people then to yell "That's insane" whenever you're around

I wonder why that is?
