Funny how much the radio listening audience mirrors the general population.

The Republican Party is 90% white. Right wing radio is huge because there is a huge group that walk, looks and talks alike.

Then you look at "so-called" liberal radio. I don't even know what that is. Why? Because it mirrors the Democratic Party. There is Hispanic radio and as you go down the line, the stations narrow audiences are different slices of the Democratic Party. No wonder you need the word "diversity".

The big names have been around for at least a decade. In the case of Rush over 20 years.

Thats a looooooong time in radio. The demographic ages, and new and fresher blood needs to be infused. My opinion is that it needs to not be so focused on actual Washington Politics. Instead of 80% Washington and 20% other, it needs to be more of a 60/40 split.

The actual demographic is 50+.

That's the problem. The demo is aging and there's nothing new to take its place...nothing new to attract the next generation of listeners.

And the all Obama comment was hyperbole. He's talking about Washington politics in general. Read the article.

The younger, newer guys start like Rush did, on one station doing the 60/40, but the good ones go on to bigger markets and have to go more national to relate to their market. I saw this happen with Todd Schnitt in South Florida. He started in Tampa then he added Miami. At that point he was maybe 30% local, 30% Florida and 40% national As he added stations, all local got dropped and he went to maybe 50/50. After adding a few more, he's now maybe 70/30.
The mediocre guys fall away or stagnate on 1,000 watt stations, the good ones go state wide and the great ones go national. As Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and others burn out or retire, they will be replaced
