How much would it cost taxpayers to fix private HC so it will cover adding 47 million to private HC? Private HC would have the same problems right wingers are alleging government HC will have. Not enough doctors, nurses and medical facilities to serve the added 47 million. And private HC would still expect to make a profit. Fixing private HC would cost more than government run HC.

Read Peter Drucker. He lists the above as a classic example of wrong headed "Cost-plus" pricing and what caused the extinction of the US Fax machine market.

Instead of starting with "my costs are X and I add a profit of Y" to price, successful companies will start by asking, "What is this worth to my customer" and work backwards from there.

It was eye opening for me when I was first exposed to it and rather than be a pompous know it all like I usually am, I offer this up to you as a genuine learnign experience.

In '05, VA reduced the tax on food to half the retail tax rate.

There is no way to cover all illnesses and major illness. Death will occur no matter what happens with health care.

Private health insurance is controlled by the gov (states). The regulations limit the options that can be made available. Insurance agencies must go according to the state, and are prevented from selling across state lines without authorization from the other states.
If the gov controls health care, you are making your and your families health history part of a giant database, that will require a medical ID number (a national ID sytem) that will include your medical files: DNA, blood type, organs in good shape and bank account info. How can this possibly be a good thing?

Whatever it would cost to fix private healthcare, that cost will be increased exponetially to include the handling fee of the gov (new departments, new administrators, new inspectors: all owed favors by a politician, that will be given bonuses for keeping healthcare costs low: less service for taxpayers).
Of the 47 million that are uninsured, only a fraction NEED healthcare. Illegal aliens should be treated ONCE and sent back to their country of origin. The people that want health insurance and cannot get it could be helped for a lot less than the gov wants to spend, and it would not ruin health care for everyone (250,000,000 others) else.

Healthcare became part of employment benefits as a direct result of the gov messing with salaries, wages and tax incentives. If the gov removed itself from these matters (national sales tax that eliminates income tax), healthcare would take care of itself.
