Rick Perry's job boom

Republicans won't be happy until half the country is working for minimum wage.

You are so wrong. Republicans don't believe in minimum wage. Minimum wage is "socialism". They want to go back to slavery. Only they don't understand that most of them will be the slaves.

There are some legitimate arguments against MIN.WAGE. How often does the government need to contribute to inflation. My state has one of the highest Min. Wages if not the highest in the country. After every increase the price of milk and bread were immediately effected.

If a job doesnt pay enough, those jobs would remain unfilled.

That's the beauty of federalism. You don't have to move there. Plus if other states adopt their policies, you can move from there too. And if all of them adopt them, you can always move to the green socialist nation of your choice... till it falls to an outside power or from within when they run out of other people's money.

Minnesota is 4th highest in taxes. But my daughter and grandchildren, my sister and best friend live here. I love it here, it's a beautiful state. And money isn't everything.
Ever since I moved here 6 years ago for my ex wife's education, I've seen nothing but the worst areas of the twin cites and people. If I could afford to, I'd move to Hudson or something on the WI side of the river and drive in to work. Much lower taxes (particularly on food and goods), and a saner government at this moment.

I moved to the Twin Cities from Seattle a little over ten years ago. I was to manage a satellite office until they found someone to take the position permanently. Funny thing, I like it so much I took the job over permanently. It's a great place to live and bring up a family and it's rated near the top for it's quality of life. Sure, there are bad parts, but what large metropolitian area doesn't have bad spots?
I also own property in Wisconsin and have a lake cabin in Wisconsin. The property taxes are high in Wisconsin, the functionary state government sucks in comparison to Minnesota and Minnesota has the 12th highest tax rate, Wisconsin is at 9th.
Also, most food products from grocery stores are exempt from sales tax in MInnesota, much like Wisconsin.

The last thing we need is to turn the entire country into Texas. If the GOP thinks Perry’s economic record is going to be some sort of selling point, they’re sadly mistaken.

This election is not about the challenger.

We already have the loser living in the White House. We are hoping to replace him with a winner.

Rick Perry and his Texas jobs boom: The whole story - Aug. 12, 2011

But that doesn't mean that all is well with employment in the Lone Star State. Texas leads the nation in minimum-wage jobs, and many positions don't offer health benefits. Also, steep budget cuts are expected to result in the loss of more than 100,000 jobs.

Texas is our future if the conservatives have their way:

There will be plenty of jobs. Low paying ones. While the rich get richer.

Okay, so what's your solution?

Mandate that employers pay people what the government dictates is a "fair wage".

A lot of the big cities have "fair wage laws". They also have whole streets full of empty, boarded up shops and factories.

Texas is a big beneficiary of the explosion in oil prices and the discovery of new shale technologies. If they had neither, job growth wouldn't have been so great.

However, Texas is pro-business and is a good environment for businesses to set up and expand, which means jobs.

Bash Texas at your own peril. People are flocking down here like mosquitos in spring-time Alaska. I've created, built, and sold two companies and working on the third.

There is enough natural gas in the Escondido, Olmos, and Eagleford formations to last for at least 30 to 50 years. Supply lines to those companies ie Chesapeake, LPP, Anadarko, Pioneer, Chevron, BP, is growing by the hundreds every year. I commute from Laredo to San Antonio every week dealing in natural gas and oil. Laredo is seeing huge growth from these companies.
