Rick Perry's job boom

Rick Perry and his Texas jobs boom: The whole story - Aug. 12, 2011

But that doesn't mean that all is well with employment in the Lone Star State. Texas leads the nation in minimum-wage jobs, and many positions don't offer health benefits. Also, steep budget cuts are expected to result in the loss of more than 100,000 jobs.

Here's a few more interesting tidbits of information:

Texas Ranks dead LAST in the nation in the percentage of adults who have high school diplomas.

So, what do they do? They cut $4 billion from public schools over two years. What do you think that is going to do for Texas?

They also have a $4.3 deficit in the current budget. See a connection? Cutting education with their schools falling apart and the highest ratio of uneducated adults in the country, cutting $4 billion from public schools was the last thing they should have done.

So get your GED finally and move there. You'll already be ahead of so many, just like much of the nation.

Besides, parents who value education will make sure their children get educated properly.

I'm kinda curious why you're all bashing on Texas. Have you been there?

If I could find a job in Texas, I'd move there in a heartbeat. Dallas is one of my favorite cities in the Union.

It is true Perry has some issues. His actual record this last year hasn't been that great. But the last decade in Texas has been fairly good for growth. Oil money helps a lot.

Companies are relocating here in droves!

I had a couple of friends here from Wisconsin a couple of months ago and they kept remarking on how CLEAN everything was here...saying only their parks were that clean.

So, go ahead...have your fun...personally I hope some of what the media says is believe....it will keep some of you dang Yankees at home instead of coming here with your trash!

Within 10 years, the population majority of Texas will be Hispanic and urban. The GOP will find it harder and harder to gain votes in the largest state of the main land 48.

Okay, you're forgiven. :)

the only problem I have with Texas is the heat and dry weather and/or hurricanes. If I move south it's going to have to be high in the mountains where it's much cooler. Colorado is far enough south for me. Then again, I'd move to either Anchorage, Buffalo or Cleveland for the weather.

I've been there twice.

Texas is our future if the conservatives have their way:

There will be plenty of jobs. Low paying ones. While the rich get richer.

Democrats won't be happy until everyone is working for Big Daddy Big Gubmint.
By working, you of course mean 'enslaved'.

Instead of being 'free' at minimum wage.
If there is only one employer, the only way to 'quit' is to flee the nation. Sorry, I'd rather be dead than live in a society like that. Of course the left has over a century of history being happy to oblige that desire.

That's the beauty of federalism. You don't have to move there. Plus if other states adopt their policies, you can move from there too. And if all of them adopt them, you can always move to the green socialist nation of your choice... till it falls to an outside power or from within when they run out of other people's money.

The way I see it Fitz is, yes you have a point. My daughter who has severe asthma was offered a very good job in Texas a few years back, She didn't apply for it, she was just offered the job)but for her health concerns and her families health concern, she had to turn it down.
Also, taking in context the state of Texas regarding education, health care and pollution, what does this say if this man becomes president of the entire nation?
Following the Tea Party's agenda, means no real reform with health care, ending the Department of Education and the EPA. These are good for our future generations?

Minnesota is 4th highest in taxes. But my daughter and grandchildren, my sister and best friend live here. I love it here, it's a beautiful state. And money isn't everything.

Since you're referencing the amount paid into healthcare and the supposed severity of pollution in such a populated state, you'd think that there'd be a much higher ratio of illnesses and death there too. Is there any evidence that they are significantly worse than other southwestern states with similar climates? Does the amount of gubmint money in health care equal healthy people? Is the pollution ratio by 'per capita', or just overall? Lots of ways to fudge this data to mean something it doesn't.

But do go on...

Republicans won't be happy until half the country is working for minimum wage.

You are so wrong. Republicans don't believe in minimum wage. Minimum wage is "socialism". They want to go back to slavery. Only they don't understand that most of them will be the slaves.

Ever since I moved here 6 years ago for my ex wife's education, I've seen nothing but the worst areas of the twin cites and people. If I could afford to, I'd move to Hudson or something on the WI side of the river and drive in to work. Much lower taxes (particularly on food and goods), and a saner government at this moment.
