Tonight during the CBS/National Journal GOP presidential foreign policy debate, Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) said that if he were president, “every country is going to start at zero dollars” in American foreign aid. “We need a president of the United States working with a Congress that sends a clear message to every country. It doesn’t make any difference whether it’s Pakistan, Afghanistan or whether it’s India,” he said.

Later in the debate, debate co-moderater Scott Pelley read a question from Twitter that asked, “Does governor Perry’s foreign aid starts at zero include Israel?” “Absolutely,” Perry said:

Wow, first SS is a "Ponzi scheme" and now he's taking on Israel. Me thinks he doesn't want to win Flordia.

He's polling around 7 percent in Iowa, 4 percent in New Hampshire...He'll actually get negative votes in Florida after this latest hoof-in-mouth disease. He'd better win SC and Nevada by 300% or something.

Shit, I haven't seen anything go up in flames like this since the Hindenberg.

:clap2:

You understand that "start at zero" does not mean an end to foreign aid, right? Surely you aren't that stupid. Well....

If you add up all of the percentages of how Mr. Perry is polling in all of the early contests, you may get a number that is in double digits. President Perry? Surely you're not stupid enough to believe that? Well....

He also said Israel is a great friend, and common sense tells you that they're going to get a significant amount of foreign aid.

The title of this thread is an absolute distortion of what the man actually said. I don't like the guy but at least don't misrepresent what he says. What he actually does say is bad enough.

Please tell us what he said...

In the original question, he never mentioned Israel. In the follow up question from someone on-line, he was asked would that apply to Israel and he said it would but considering the strength of the Israel relationship, support would be significant. The title to this tread is misleading.
